Thank you everyone for the input. @Chrisb222 - The intent is to create a wet room; probably have more than one floor drain so that I can take a squeegee and push the water into the drains without having to rely on just the shower drain. @Gawdzira - I appreciate the detail about 18" clearance; door handle access is something I will have to keep in mind. @Ridge_Runner- Thanks for the insight about 48" vs 60"; I think ultimately it will have to be larger (as well as the overall bathroom) as I am considering installing some type of lift/sling mechanism to aid in transferring from wheelchair to toilet to shower chair.

Good day and thank you for taking the time to view my post. I have an adult special needs daughter with a progressive debilitative condition; she requires assistance getting in and out of a tub and on/off the toilet. I have determined that it would be more cost effective if I were to build a house rather than retrofit my existing home. I am going to design the house based upon mobility/accessibility needs; specifically, I need the house to be as power chair/wheelchair friendly as possible. I am going to start with designing her bedroom and bathroom and let the floor plan evolve from there. For the shower area in the bathroom, I am thinking that an 8’ x 8’ curb less shower area will be large enough for me to maneuver her dedicated shower wheel chair; overall bathroom square footage would be a minimum of 192 sq.ft (12’ x 16’) but can be larger if needed. I have created a basic floor plan concept using a 1’ x 1’ grid created in Excel; I’ve also found from another website a picture that shows the intent of what I am trying to accomplish. Based upon your experiences, is my proposed floorplan too small? Too large? I appreciate your input.
