  1. Hi - I have requirement to build a foundation 36 inch below grade and 8 inch above grade. I was able to set the footing and foundation wall to 36 inch. I am unable to add a 8 inch CMU block extending on the stemwall above grade - the anchor will be extended into this block and to the sill plate. In addition, I will need to add a 3 inch concrete rat slab flush with top of the block. I tried to add another layer to the floor structure above by adding 3 inch concrete, but unable to show 5 inch of gravel below and 8 inch of block around. see the picture. The only other way is to put one layer of 3 inch concrete and then another layer of 5 inch block (for the display sake), however it will show as blocks covering the entire are and not the perimeter. any other way to show this in a neat way? thanks
  2. makes a lot of sense. Many thanks for the reply.
  3. Hello again, I just started using CA. Hence, a basic problem I wanted to get resolved. many thanks in advance for helping. In picture 1: 'reducing wall height'. In my existing home, I have first, second and, an attic with highest room height of 86 inch in the middle of the attic; attic then slopes off. I drew a third floor and added roof, I had to do it to give space in the attic. How can I reduce the height of the third floor wall to let us say 2 feet on the gable wall.side? In the picture I want to join the two structure which will represent the true height of the attic. Issue 2: How do I exclude the materials for the old home? currently, it gives me material list as it is a new construction, is there a feature that I can highlight and mention not to be included in the material list? After writing this, I was able to solve the picture 2 problem. so I am good with the foundation height issue. In picture 2: My old home has a basement and I am not planning a basement in the addition. the old house has floor starting 4 ft. from grade due to basement, and new addition will start from 8 inch above grade. I am unable to increase the height of the stemwall that would represent the basement wall in the old house. I do not have to show a basement and add complication to the drawing; is there a way for me to show the floor to start at 4 ft above the grade while leaving the new addition floor at 8 inch above. I have been trying for a long time, so finally gave up and thought of asking. Many thanks once again for helping out. Felix
  4. Hello All, since you asked for a drawing, I have attached here. As you can see, the first roof slopes down and this makes it difficult to connect the two attics. (Window seems low as I was unable to reduce the height of the Atticl; the attic sits directly above the second floor and I am able to use the mid section, which is 7 ft. high). The red line shows that I need a 7 feet entry into the new attic that I am building, which is a gable roof perpendicular to the existing one on the right. This is the reason I asked whether two roofs can be joined (without lot of overengineering) and come up with a passage from the tallest points on both roof. many thanks Felix
  5. Many thanks HumbleChief for taking time to explain. It makes lot of sense now. regards Felix
  6. Hi - My current home is 40 W X 50 L. It has a basement (ceiling 6 ft) with 3 ft above grade level. I am planning an addition and want to show the addition alongside the old home. New addition will share the 50 ft side but will be 30 ft wide. I am also planning a new foundation for the new addition, i.e., not sharing existing wall foundation. The problem I am encountering is, If I show them as one building - 1. I am unable to show the new addition with 8 inch above grade and old home with 3ft above grade. I want the ceiling of the first floor to be of the same height, which means height of the ceiling of the new addition will be higher as it will be only 8 inch above grade. 2. I am unable to exclude material of the old house to come with estimate of only new addition. finally, I tried to separate the homes out in one drawing with separate foundation, but they somehow are linked all the time, like if I make a foundation change, it affects both home's foundation. Anyways to delink the two houses in the same plan? thanks, Felix
  7. Hi - I am planning an extension of a home. The old house has a gable roof and I am trying to connect a new gable roof perpendicular to it. Although, I can do a connection with old roof as it is, i.e., with an overlap, I am not able to remove the rafters from old roof to create a triangle path through the old roof into the new roof. i.e., I do not want the section of the old roof over which the perpendicular gable roof is attached/overlaps. please let me know if I am unclear. hope you can tell me how CA can show the exact truss / roof framing that my builder can use. regards Felix
