  1. Good day,

I've searched the forum prior to post and can not locate conversation regarding a - Surface Mount Kitchen Counter Receptacle.

The Pop-Up type - see image.

In October of 2023 an electrical code had been changed.

Now on islands you need to have a Surface Mount Kitchen Counter Receptacle, instead of one mounted to the side of a base cabinet.

At the moment, it does not matter if some can still install a receptacle into the side of a base cabinet, I am curious as to if there are Surface Mount Kitchen Counter Receptacle?

As I can not locate in the library.

    Thanks so Much!! :D

  2. Good day all,

I thought I had seen somewhere where for example:

If you have an existing library item such as Fir Tongue and Groove (under Clopay) -

    Referenced Files\Clopay.zip#zip:FirPlank_CAAB.jpg

One is able to change it from Fir to another species such as Oak.

I was going to use this Oak which may be close enough for the client to visualize -

    Referenced Files\Andersen.zip#zip:Oak-White2r(30)

Not sure if this can really be done - OR what is the simplest way to archive a horizontal 6" T&G look to tie in the pre-made Hood Vent from Dura-Supreme

    Thank you :)

  3. Good day,

For some reason I can not figure out, a small section of wall has been created at the lower end of a stairwell, close to the bottom (last) tread.

I've selected both from plan view and 3d to delete.

Anyway after removing the small bump-out wall it leaves a ceiling which I can not seem to click and adjust and it applies no drywall to that area of ceiling.

May be after the ceiling below is remove it will allow the drywall to apply to the ceiling????

    Some images are below.

Also, I know it is easier for some to just open the plan and look - totally get it - I've tried to remove a variety of items to get the plan to 14mb, but not successful.

Yes I know the light does not need to be there - it just is.

So I uploaded a backup zip file to my site which can be downloaded here:

    https://www.pacificridgellc.com/images/chief/09-11-23_Dining_Attic_Wall.zip

It is 26mb.  So I've only been using chief just over 1yr so I am sure there are other ways to get a 3-story plan smaller.

Thank you for your assistance and insight in advance! - :)

Hi, Drew!:D Many thanks for your answer. I was thinking about that method; the only problem is, this way, my User Catalog will be full of copies and it will be a mess. I try to get it as much clean as I can because I download many materials and symbols. I was thinking about a way to use the same material file for different objects and different properties but I guess it's not possible.

Another question I have is: Is there a way to apply a material to a particlar part of a symbol? For example, I have downloaded a light (picture attached) and, as you can see, lightbulb and cover are the same (red). Is it possible to apply the "lighting white" material to the lightbulb and whatever other color to the cover?

    Good day,

I've ran into the same situation with regards to several copies of an original with different names for different applications.

If it works for you - Go to the Library Catalog and Right Click on your User Catalog and choose - New > Folder.

Then rename or Right Click on the new folder and re-name it (for example) the current Job or Client your working on, and safe the files there.

This way it unclutters your User Catalog - you just have a few Job/Client folders is all.

I hope this may be helpful as this is what I do and helps keep less clutter...and copies of copies.

In regards to the light - DB's answer is the solution.

    Have a great day!

  5. While trying to increase the 'Font' or 'Text' size (a number that measures the size of characters such as letters, numbers, and punctuation marks on a screen or printed page), I am unable to make them readable because they are so small.

    Here was my Process:

    1)  Right Click on Cad Details in Project Browser
    2)  New Cad Detail
    3)  Rename Accordingly
    4)  Go To - Tools/Schedules
    5)  Choose Desired Schedule from Schedules List
    6)  Click in New Cad Detail to Insert on to Page

It seems no matter what Text Style I choose to change the Font Size to a Larger Font, it appears to increase Everything in proportion (images and white space).

If I choose - Scale Images from General Tab, it will make images smaller.

However the Rows remain the same height, defeating the purpose of enlarging the Main Text within the body of the schedule.

When you choose - File/Send to Layout, Fonts are really Tiny

I'm sure there is a solution that I may apply......somewhere.

Or in the Default Window before placing them or in your Template if you always use the same Manufacturer.

And it shows up in Layout only if you send the Window Schedule to Layout, same as the Door and other Schedules...

I personally prefer to do that from a Schedule in a Cad Detail, rather than Plan View.

    M.

    Wonderful - thank you.

Makes perfect sense for my question.  So much more for me to learn to make things quicker and easier.

And the added info of a Cad Detail rather than Plan View is great.

    Thanks for taking the time!

  7. Good day,

    Have you tried.....

    1)  Locate the material in the 'Library Browser' that you want to use - Right Click and Duplicate.

    2)  A 'Copy' of the Original in now placed into Your User Catalog.

    3)  The new Copy is now grayed over - Right Click the new copy (in your user library) and Rename by moving the curser with the arrow keys to the end of the current name and add something like 'xxxx-Matte'. (if that is what you want - xxxx being the original name)

    4)  Next, Right Click on your New Material you just renamed, and make another copy.  Rename in the same way and maybe call this one xxxx-Plastic"

    5)  Right click on your new item called 'xxxx-Matte' and go into the 'Define Material' as you have, and change to what you want for Matte.

    6)  Now go to your other new item called 'xxxx-Plastic'  and change any settings you want for Plastic.

If understood, that should help by modifying each material for you to apply independently to achieve your desired results.

    Have a great day:D

  8. Good day,

I suspect it could be easier to type in the Manufacturers name and Model of windows in some general notes, however since the option to display it is in the Window Specification/Object Information, I thought I'd give it a try.

With that, where do you input the Manufacturer name so the layout sheet pulls from that when specified?

    Thank you -

So I am going to guess that your upper windows are in the attic wall that is on the floor above the room. If they are on the floor above, then the schedule won't show them in the same room.  I don't think schedules can figure out that rooms can be on more than one floor.

You could try placing the windows on the wall on the floor below and then dragging them up to the attic wall in an elevation view.  You might need to hold the control key down to drag the windows up through the missing platform.  In the picture below, W02 is on floor 2 in the attic wall so it has no room.  W03 was placed on the floor 1 wall and then moved up to the attic wall so it shows the room name.

Another thing you could do is to create a room on the floor above using invisible walls and then name it whatever you want just so that the room name shows up in the schedule the way you want it to.

    attic wall windows.jpg

You are correct.  OK - that makes sense.  I can do something like that.  I'll try the drag up method first.

Thank you - have a great day!!

  11. Good day,

In the Master Bedroom, Living Room and Upper Stairwell are some UPPER windows which will not pull the 'Room Name' from which they are located onto the Window Schedule.

I know this may be a minor item, however sometime a little bit more information can be helpful.

It looks like this space is referred to as 'Attic' in the Bedroom and Living.

For the Stairwell Windows, that wall - under the Wall Specification/General Tab, it lists no selection for any wall type (Foundation, Railing, Terrain, Attic)

    Here is one example image

Is there a proper way to do this?  (other than comments)

    Thanks!
