  1. I don't think it is a graphics issue because I can ray trace without an issue once I get a messed up camera view. And when I scroll all the way in to just a 12" or so view of an object it will show me the correct texture/color. Also, all my elevations work correctly - just camera and perspective full overview do not. Here are my specs - it is an Intel integrated graphics. Could it be a refresh rate or something? I also attached chief's preferences for the video card.

  2. Attached plan so you can review the settings. It's hard to understand exactly what you want. Posting the plan would be helpful. I'm sure Glenn is right and you are probably "fighting" the elevations from one level to another. I have the auto foundation set to hang the first floor inside of the foundation. If you only want one wall you will to pull the wall up in a section view.

  3. There's really nothing to learn. Everything is divisible by 10. And 1000sf is roughly 100sm. I did my first metric job a few years ago in Bangkok for a friend. It was a 230sm renovation of a condo. There wasn't any learning curve whatsoever.

  4.

How do you typically create new layouts and update your template?

There seems to be a lot of older data from X6 and maybe older in this file. There are even references to objects that would normally be in a plan file, not a layout file. This is probably what's adding to your file size.

I would recommend copying your title block into a new layout and saving the new layout file as a template.

Yep, that's what I'll do. I was just wondering if there was something I was missing. Thanks to all that had a look.

  5. I use the plan footprint and then rotate the plan in there so north is up. To get the upper roof planes to show I have a "Roof Planes Only" layer set that I send to a cad detail, change those lines to a layer that is only in my "Plan Footprint" layer set, then copy and paste holding position back into the plan.

  6. You don't necessarily lose the all of the structural integrity of the rafter if there is a ceiling joist nailed directly to the side (and strategically placed nails). However I agree it's not ideal. I have messed with this a bit and I can get it to sort of work by un-checking "Automatic Birdsmouth Cut" in the roof DBX and changing the seat cut but then it leaves the bottom of the rafters hitting below the ceiling on the inside. This does fix the the angled ceiling problem on the inside though.

A work around could be turning off the rafters layer for camera views and a CAD mask in section views to cover up the the rafter. Or if it's a simple enough roof where all of the 2x8's are the same you could make a polyline solid of the rafter and copy them across the plan.
