I typically do this for the horrible plans that come from Canvas I am given..........
Open one of your Preferred Plans ( your Template if you have one ) and Export everything available to a Known Backup folder for reuse...
eg : C:\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X14 Data\Backups
also save a copy for your Preferred Plan into this same folder , so you can import Saved Plan Views (SPVs) and Defaults ( not Default Sets) too from it.
Export :
- Default Sets ( Annotation Sets in old-speak)
- Layersets
- Wall Definitions ( may not be needed )
- Note Types
On Import in to the Provided Plan make sure to Overwrite/Replace etc in each case....
Then Import the SVPs from the Preferred Plan, followed by the Defaults
Mick.
This did the trick! Thank you!

Look at your options File>Import
I tried that and it still is not replacing the layer sets he created or overwriting them.

I have a chief file I received from an architectural drafter and he has customized all of his own layer sets which does not work well for how I do my interior design sets. I've been trying to figure out how to get the settings to go back to default settings and clear out his custom settings but so far have had no success.
Any suggestions?
My main hang-up is my elevations- his settings turn off all finish details and cabinets and pull in different dimension defaults and I just want to use the standard kitchen and bath defaults for my elevations.
Thanks,
Krissy

Use a short room divider placed perpendicular to the short wall and snap it to the wall then move the room divider to where you want the wall to stop.
Never mind I got that to work! Thank you!

I have a half wall that will have a counter on it for bar seating. It is wanting to auto snap the half wall to meet with the room divider I created as the family room is a step down. How do I make this not auto snap to the room divider as I don't want the wall extending into the step/walkway. See attached photo.

Ok , that helps , it's still a Gull Wing but it appears they had to make the top almost Flat ...to perhaps met a local height restriction?
You will need to build the Gull Wing, turn off Auto Roof Build, then Manually add the 4 almost flat ( 1/2" : 12 ?) triangular Planes.
Mick.
* I did this is a new Plan as your Plan is having issues with the Gull Wing Roof for some reason.....
This is so extremely helpful! Thank you for explaining how to do this. I've worked on this for hours trying to figure it out.

Here's a bird's eye view of the house. Unfortunately my clients haven't closed on the house yet and original owners were outside so I did not want to walk up to their property without permission and take photos.

To me it appears to be what Chief Calls a Gull Wing Roof , or 2-Pitch Roof , opposite Pitches of a Mansard.
Low to High ie: 4/12 , then turns into 8/12 approximately 5' from the Baseline ( Wall )
As Eric shows above..... Build Roof > Roof Styles > Gull Wing Roof which should open the Help file for you...
I drove past the house today and the roof is a combination of the Gull Wing and Mansard because the side walls do not come to a peak like a gable. Trying to figure out how to do this. When I follow the steps for the mansard roof it comes up to a point (I attached a screenshot) and I don't know how to make it flat on the top.

I have a whole house remodel I am working on that has a finished attic space so it is important for my roof to resemble what they currently have. I'm attaching photos of the existing house exterior photos from google maps to show what the roof looks like (I know these are not clear but I currently do not have additional photos to reference).
It appears to me to be a hip roof from the front but now I'm thinking after reviewing the photos again it is a mansard roof which I cannot figure out how to create.
Additionally, there is supposed to be a dormer in the attic and I just cannot figure out how to appropriately place the dormer without getting an error message. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as roofs are not my specialty in this program by any means.
File is also attached.
Thanks in advanced.

Eric, thank you so much! This did the trick and was so simple. As always, I appreciate your help!

Hi there! Client wants me to model their bathroom with the glass shower door having black metal trim in it (see attache inspo photo) and I couldn't find any already made objects like this to import so I'm thinking this has to be custom made. Please any advice on how to go about doing this. I have been researching and watching videos and haven't found a thread that solves this issue.

So the roof will build over it.
The only issue with that is the client wants the deck to be large now and not small like how it currently is- how do I work around that?

That roof should easily auto build. Set your roof defaults, change walls to gable etc.
If you used the Bay Window tool, you will need to delete it and draw in your own bay.
Make your deck small like the one shown and set it to have a roof and ceiling.
I figure out what was going on with the roof over the garage. Looking at the photo of the house again I'm noticing the roof over the second floor over the garage- the roof is actually not centered within the middle window but centered between the first angle of the bay window and the other exterior wall. Not sure how to update the roof to be centered in this location?

Here's an actual image of the house. I've been playing around and can't figure out how to get the simple sloped roof above the garage or how to change the roof above the bay window to connect to the roof on either side of it.
Here's my updated model.

Thank you SO much Eric! I really appreciate you taking the time to look into this and record how to fix it. That worked for me!

Is Auto Rebuild Roofs on, or have you checked Build Roof Planes in the Build Roof dialog?
Yes, Auto Rebuild Roofs is on.

Hi All.
Still new to the program and figuring things out. I have built an automatic roof and am trying to modify it to be a gable roof instead of the default hip roof. I have watched the various videos on how to do this as well as read through forums and have not been able to figure out why my roof will not adjust to a gable after changing each wall to be a gable setting. I've attached screenshots and uploaded the file. The client only wanted a model for purposes of seeing a new deck/stair option and paint color so the roof isn't the most important thing but I still want it to resemble their house.
Thanks,
Krissy

How to make a cabinet gallery rail/tipping rail
in General Q & A
Posted
I'm trying to figure out how to accomplish rendering a "tipping rail" or "gallery rail" on the shelving for my kitchen design for a client that specifically wants this look. Please see the attached link to the product we are buying:https://www.etsy.com/listing/1411610590/brass-shelf-rail-tipping-railgallery?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_-home_and_living&utm_custom1=_k_Cj0KCQiAo7KqBhDhARIsAKhZ4ugpEEjFLXoYCKjWysrE6LdI46Vh8ufoWynZsn1LBzif_6-o8W3JYZgaAk2hEALw_wcB_k_&utm_content=go_12665398257_121762925993_511610210343_pla-303628061699_c__1411610590_12768591&utm_custom2=12665398257&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAo7KqBhDhARIsAKhZ4ugpEEjFLXoYCKjWysrE6LdI46Vh8ufoWynZsn1LBzif_6-o8W3JYZgaAk2hEALw_wcB
I'm trying to apply this to shelving in chief.
