  1. Hello,

I need some input/ideas on how to tie a new addition roof into an existing roof. I have tried to work it manually, and I have tried to let Chief work it with automatic roofs. I'm all out of ideas. Either way, the roof planes are interfering with the upper level bedroom windows and we can't lose those windows. Does anyone have another idea to make these work?? Unable to move forward with finishing the project until I get these tied together!

Thank you for your help. I am using Chief Architect X13. I have attached two images of the "As-Built" 3D view of the roof issue and the remodeled 3D view as well. I would attach the plan file but it is telling me it exceeds the total size

What do you not know how to do?

Don't know how to make the soffit lean out. I have watched the videos on sloping soffits and placing them under a roof but I don't know how to manipulate that to make it actually a "lean to" porch column.

I used 10 for the main gable but other than that, all auto built above.

Here it is with 12. This took 3 minutes, maybe 4, to do. Take a look at the railing walls Roof panel.

I also raised the roof in the build roof dialog, but that's not important -- just for looks.

This is exactly what I was going for. Good to know that it is actually possible. Thanks for the tips and I will watch some videos and play around with auto build more.

  4. Me again!

This roof has been giving me fits.... mainly the roof over the wrap around porch. It was a very simple roof until the homeowners wanted to bump the house out in the middle sections front and back. It may still be a simple fix that my brain is just not comprehending.... anyone want to take a shot at screen recording and sharing how you would join these roof planes?

  5. It's me again!

My client would like to have an angled kitchen peninsula (as pictured). Trying to figure out the easiest way to make this happen. I have not found a way to manipulate a cabinet to do what I would like it to. Would this be a situation where I would need to create a custom symbol? Anyone have any experiencing with similar cabinet work? Thank you.

  6. At a loss here! Could someone take a 3D look and tell me if you have any suggestions for either of these two things....

#1 I am trying to place a round gable roof vent on the left front main gable as seen on the right side... It will not let me center it and it also will only show the outer edge of the vent. It's like the middle area of the vent is behind something. I do have a material region over this area if that is relevant information.

#2 My other issue is the second story balcony on the front of the structure. Out of the blue, I must have done something that I did not notice to cause the right side railing of this balcony to become a wall of some sort. You can see an outline of a wall here when you turn off railings, but it will not let me select it no matter what. When I move the balcony railing from it's current location it goes back to normal. Only I don't want to move it because this is where it needs to be.

    Thank you for any help.

  7. Can someone tell me why my deck railing is doing this? And explain how I can make it stop doing this? I want to have iron rods for balusters so I changed it in the library and it wants to give me all these rows of iron rods. Thank you for the advice!

  8. Hello!

I have a client who is wanting this kind of siding design (see attachment). I am a fairly new user of CA and I am having trouble finding a siding material and even trying to create one to mimic this design. I have tried creating a polyline solid and converting to a symbol, and that worked for me when I was trying to make horizontal deck railings. But it will not let me do the same thing with the siding. Anybody have any tips? They just want 6" trim pieces spaced apart over a smooth hardie board siding. Very similar to board and batten but more space between the trim pieces. Any help is appreciated!

  9. I have several DXF files for a project I am working on that was sent to me by the architect. He is working in AutoCad and sent them to me in DXF format. Some of the DXF's I am importing into CA seem to be opening properly for the most part, but some appear blank. I do not have much experience importing DXF's to CA as I just moved over to CA recently. Any advice? I would be willing to import the files in DWG or convert from PDF and trace over if needed. Not opposed to doing a little more work as long as it gets done correctly. Would appreciate any advice on which method would be less of a hassle.

I have attached 2 files in case anyone wants to give it a look. Maybe you might see something I am missing. One of them I am able to open and see the data and the other is showing up blank for me. The file "First Floor Plan" is the one that is showing up blank. "Lower Level Building Plan" is opening up fine. Any help is appreciated!!!
