  1. I added a signature, I promise... maybe it will show up after I log out and then back in. Nice to meet you both.
  2. I added a signature for your viewing pleasure I was finally able to do what I was trying to do. I created a gable roof over the room, got rid of the ceiling, then changed absolute ceiling height to be approx 5" higher than what the pitched height should be. So, then when I created a wall elevation, it now shows it accurately. I'll fix the hood. Thank you for your indirect help... sorry to confuse you... which you probably still are!
  3. Sorry to be confusing. I created this, went back and made some changes and then was unable to recreate this elevation view. I took the pic of the screen with my phone earlier and texted it to someone which is why I have the pic. Again, everytime I do a wall elevation it appears flat and you cant see half of the hood. You are differentiating between elevation and wall elevation which I'm not sure what you mean. If it's too hard to figure out what my problem is (except my obvious lack of experience), it's fine... I will keep reading and try to figure it out. Thank you.
  4. Ok, go it... What about the floor elevation? Should I be able to show the change in that mode? I've attached the pic where I did, but now can't.
  5. I have a plan drawn and now am going back to change roof/ceiling type so it is more accurate. I read that you can build a roof and then remove the ceiling to get the effect, which I did and somehow I made it work, but now I cant replicate it. It will be a gable roof with 8 on 12 pitch. Room height will be 144". In full perspective view it looks right, but when I do an elevation of the wall it appears to have a flat ceiling and in the floor camera view the top part of the wall is missing as I've shown in the pic attached. Help would be much appreciated! Hope I explained enough. I don't know all the technical terms. My husband is the builder, I just draw the cabinets... and I'm still learning.
  6. My husband will be building the furniture, mostly out of wood and steel. Needs someone to bring his ideas to life on paper/cad to show clients and send to CNC shop. Please send me your contact info if this is something you or someone you know can do. Thank you! Melissa
  7. Thank you! That's a better fix and I can do the same thing to the other side of the tall cabinets if I want it to extend down both sides... which I think might look better. I appreciate your feedback!
  8. Well, I just stuck a polyline solid in there the width of the stile and depth of the toe kick. Less lines than a partition leaves so maybe that's my best bet. I thought maybe there was a technically correct way to achieve this.
  9. Yes, but wider. The width of the L stile... 1 1/2". Did you add a partition?
  10. Hello CA helpers. Hopefully I will explain this well enough for you to understand what I'm needing. I am wanting to have sides that extend to the floor on the right side of the tall cabinet on the R and the Left side of the tall cabinet on the L. When the depth of the base and tall cabinets are the same, this is easily done by checking "flat side" and "closed toe" but leaving the toe kick dimensions in (which I do want to retain the toe kick). However, when the tall cabinets are 2 inches deeper than the base cabinets, It extends the Sides on Both sides but leaves a gap where the toe kick is on one (the inner) side. Make sense? Tried to capture it with attached pics. How would you achieve this look? Again, end goal is to have tall cabinets be 24" deep, middle base cabinets to be 22" deep and for the sides/ends of the entire group of cabinets to extend to the floor. Thanks for any suggestions. Relatively new to CA by the way. We only do custom cabinets. I just need it to "look" right.
  11. Yes! Thank you!! When I adjust the molding from the top down instead of from the bottom up, it worked fine. Haha, that's about all I didn't try!
  12. As you can see in the attached pic, my adjustment for horizontal offset was uniformly made to the base and extends off the left end. Is there a way to avoid this when adding molding to an end cabinet through the dialog box? By the way, I want to retain the toe kick as well as add bracket feet to it.
  13. Mark, I am learning more everyday. Creating layer sets is not something I have mastered yet, however I did try to follow your instructions above and remove the cabinet doors which then allowed me to dimension the sections, which didn't take as long as I thought it would! Thanks for the education! 2020 allows you to do "line to line" dimensions, so a long as the lines of the cabinets show up in the elevations you can manually measure the sections. It's a pain in the butt to make sure you get the exact lines for exact measurements. I am not a 2020 fan.
  14. Ok, thank you for taking time to explain that. Sounds like the least time consuming and easiest, given my general lack of knowledge/experience and the time it takes me to figure things out, would be to place individual cabinets for each section of a custom cabinet. Lol!
  15. All my cabinets will be custom. Here are some pics of the issue. As you can see when I placed individual cabinets (with stiles adjusted to be equal in between each set) it shows the dimensions. When I place one base cabinet and divide it up in the specifications it doesn't show the dimensions of each section. Creating a CAD detail and then using manual dimensions sounds like extra work, which at this point I don't even know how to do. So, am I to understand that the only way to show dimensions of cabinet portions (whether base or uppers/tall) automatically is place individual cabinets? What is the advantage of being able to easily divide up a cabinet into separate sections if that is the case? I'm confused. Sorry, if I'm sounding ignorant. I'm really just trying to figure out the best way to do this.
  16. Custom cabinets only. If they can be built as one cabinet... they will be. I can explain more and post pics if needed... but gotta go pick a kid up from school first!
  17. I only draw custom cabinets at this point and I haven't been doing it too long. Used 2020 for a little while and now CA so my experience is limited. My question is regarding what you find is best for drawing cabinets with multiple configurations and ensuring that dimensions are shown for each section in the elevations. If I use one cabinet and split it into 3 sections (which is wonderfully easy) it doesn't show the dimensions of each section. If I use 3 cabinets and adjust stiles to make it look like one custom cabinet the dimensions will show automatically (a little more work for me). I love the ease of splitting one cabinet multiple times, but need the dimensions. Am I missing something? Another way to place dimensions without placing individual cabinets? Thanks for helping.
  18. I was told just a little bit ago that the reason my files weren't showing up is because I was drawing a black line on a white background in CA and autocad programs/viewers have a black background. The drawing was there, but because it was a black line on a black page you couldn't see it. So, I think that by checking the "export autocad index colors" which is not checked by default made the difference. ... Just wanted to clarify in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
  19. Ok, it didn't seem to matter if I moved the start point to the 0,0 point. However, when I saved the dxf with the exact settings as Ben's and opened it up on my trial version of a CAD file viewer, they showed up!! if you don't mind, will you check to see if they show up for you (anyone with the capability) and let me know? 20. Ok, I will find a free viewer, move it closer to the 0,0, and try your exact settings which seem slightly different than mine. I need to make this work. There's no reason I should have to pay someone else to do these simple drawings. Any other suggestions are welcome. Melissa
  21. Mine open up fine in CA. I don't have an autoCAD program. We sent test files to a friend/draftsman who originally said they were empty; but the last one I sent to him he said was fine; so I sent them on to the company who then said they were empty. The steps I am taking when I export it is as follows: I click on "file/export/current view/export(with no changes made to defaults)/change type to dxf/save. Possibly I need to change something to the defaults that come up when I export it?? Can you tell me the steps you took to save your file to dxf that opened correctly. I attached the window that gives me options when I export. I am brand new to this... been using CA for a month or so. I wouldn't know which settings need to be changed when exporting to a dxf. Thanks for you time.
  22. Hi, I have created a few CAD dxf files that are seemingly not correct because when I send them to a laser company (to have the pieces cut out) I am being told there is nothing on the file. Would someone please open them up in a CAD program, look at my CA drawing or whatever else and tell me what I am doing wrong? Thank you. I will attach a pdf of what it is supposed to look like, the CA plan and the dxf file. MANY THANKS!! BUTTERFLY A pdf.pdf Butterfly A.dxf Butterfly A.plan
  23. Dermot... I posted my previous reply prior to seeing yours... so now you know, I'm just ignorant about how base molding is run! Haha! But thank you for clarifying the other way to change the position of the door handle. It worked perfectly!
  24. Yes, I definitely want to keep the base molding in the room. After a bit of trial and error, I was able to edit the molding and pull it back. However, it was basically the same look. After I called my husband (the builder), I was informed that yes, the base molding would kill into the cabinet. I figured it would sit in between the base molding... but no. so I wasted my time worrying about it. I'm learning... Thanks for the help!
  25. Perhaps I did it wrong, but this cabinet has the look I want on the sides as far as extending all the way to the floor while maintaining a toe kick. However, as you can see in the picture, the wall base molding is going through the sides of the cabinet and ends at the depth of the toe kick... which is not what I want. Do I need to do something to the cabinet settings or the room molding? Also, for some reason, I can't move the handle on the door. I change the the dimensions for it's location but it doesn't move. Any suggestions? Thank you!
