  1. I actually took a 3d standard toilet and dropped it in my plan. Then I went to CAD block management and inserted the 2D toilet into the plan. I then exploded the CAD block toilet and painstakingly changed the various solid lines to dashes. I then made a new CAD block showing the dashed toilet. and saved it to my user catalog under demo toilet. Now I just drop that baby in if I want to show a demo toilet.
  2. It was something real simple messing me up. I'll try to explain. I made my mask in CAD Detail and painstakingly made it all dashed the way I wanted. Then I did my copy and paste hold back in my main plan. When I deleted a wall it would show solid. That's because the CAD layer in the default view was not set to dashed but was set to solid. I didn't realize that just because the CAD block was dashed didn't mean that it would show dashed in the default. It showed what the default set had for line color etc. When I went into the default set, and reset the CAD block to pink, dash or whatever it worked. Bottom line is that when I was copying into the default plan the default plan's CAD layer was set to solid and that was "overwriting" the dashed CAD block that I had created. It was your video that showed my simple mistake. Merci beaucoup a thousand times. I'm burned out now and calling it a day.
  3. Wow! Thanks for going to that trouble to do that video! I'm going to memorize it.
  4. I've been spending hours trying to make a simple demo plan with dashes for the walls etc to be removed. I got it to the point where I was able to create a CAD Block full of dashes that I thought I could copy and paste hold back to the original plan and then when I remove a wall etc. the underlying AS-built wall would show dashed as in the underlying mask. When I take the CAD Block below which is dashed and copy hold it into the plan it comes out with solid lines not dashed! Very frustrating. Why ishn't it copying the dashed lines that are in the CAD block? thanks in advance for any help.
  5. Thanks for that suggestion. I put the standard toilet @D Cad Block into the plan, but when I went to make it a dashed line toilet it wouldn't let me do it. It's still solid line and I'm trying to show it dashed for demo. Is there a work around?
  6. I'm trying to create an As-Built Mask where everything is dashed including fixtures. I get it where I want it in plan view and go to create the mask by clicking CAD Detail from View. AS you can see below it changes the toilets from dashed to solid. I want to show the toilet dashed on the demo plan to show it's being demoed. Didn't think CAD Detail From View was supposed to change the view. First graphic is everything dashed and second is the Detail from View making the toilets solid. What might I be missing? Thanks..
  7. Thanks for responding. In the previous model I put the dormer in the 12 pitch roof over the first floor. It turns out that I was on the right track but didn't keep going. When I had asked the question I had added the second floor which bumped the dormers and everything up a floor. When I deleted the second floor walls over the original part of the house that left my roof and dormers suspended in space 2 floor up rather than sitting on the house one floor up. It hit me that if I kept going and deleted the roof and the dormers that were suspended in place and then manually recreated the roof and dormers of the original house on the first floor it might work. I have a ways to go but at least I got past this hurdle as you can see below.
  8. Whoops - in the cape photo in the first content of the stream not in the reply.
  9. In the cape photo below the addition is coming off the ridge line of the main roof of the house whereas I'm trying to get at least one option where my addition comes off the dormer roof per below (For the life of me I'm not sure how I created the one below. It does have two floors in the addition as well as in the main part of the house. I tried to reduplicate it with no success.
  10. I am trying to add a two story addition to the back of a one story house with a full dormer across the back. The existing house in CA has a single story with a full dormer across the back of the house (see below). I'm trying to do something similar to the cape addition photo below. I will remove the deck and add a 15' x 32' two story addition lining up with the dormer (i.e. extending from the deck corner of the house to the end of he main roof line up to the smaller room jut out. I added the first floor per below. I highlight the addition and when I add the second floor it adds it to the entire house blowing it up per below. I went in and deleted all the second floor walls in the main part of the house (see below 2nd floor removed) and the result was:an attic floating in mid air per below (2nd floor). I read a thread about just adding he wall I want to the second floor but I have to have a second floor created before I add walls and I don't have a second floor. thanks in advance for any advise you can give.
  11. The right answer for me was to use the sun follows camera icon which I found under the adjust sunlight icon on the top task bar by clicking on the light bulb icon. thanks.
  12. Thanks so much. That did it! took me a while to find the icon- found it under adjust lights in top taskbar.
  13. I forgot to mention that I can get it brighter by messing sith intensity but then the shadows are too dark.
  14. No matter what I do with sun angle etc. I can't get my camera view on the left where the posts are white, looking like the tutorial Im using on the right where everything is brighter and the shadows are not extreme. I did one drawing where it looked like 2 different colors on the siding. How do I get the dark drawing looking like the lighter tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to help me. (I did search the knowledge base and kept running into ray trace threads but not this "simple" problem).
  15. I agree. My problem is that I didn't know how to create it. In Chief X6 I would go to build floor and choose 0. In Chief X8 it wouldn't let me choose floor 0. I realize that I instead could only do so by going to build Foundation and get to 0 that way. Thanks.
  16. Thanks! Was trying to do what I thought I did in X6 which was just going to floor 0 and creating foundation.
  17. I have Chief X8 and for some reason the lowest floor level I can create is 1. I would like to make the foundation floor 0 but it defaults to 1 and the down arrow is grayed out to lower it to floor 0. Thanks. Floor 0 test.plan
