Chief Architect 10 on Windows XP Virtual Machine - Sentinel HASP/LDK Run-Time Installer 8.13 Needed

I'm restoring a fully licensed copy of Chief Architect Version 10.08b using my original Aladdin HASP USB dongle in a Windows XP virtual machine. (I only need to do a simple task that doesn't justify an upgrade or subscription to a newer product).

 

While researching the solution, I found this 2020 ChiefTalk post recommending the Sentinel HASP/LDK Windows GUI Run-Time Installer 8.13 (Sentinel_LDK_Run-time_setup.zip, MD5 2b9a4dc20e6acc32cc9e4636b1d5eafa). Unfortunately, those instructions are no longer reproducible. The original Gemalto support links are gone, and I have searched the current Thales Support Portal using the same search terms ("Chief Architect", "HASP driver", "Sentinel LDK Run-Time Installer 8.13", etc.). The current Thales site no longer returns the 8.13 installer or any archived downloads for that version, only current Sentinel LDK documentation and newer runtime releases.

 

If anyone still has the original Sentinel_LDK_Run-time_setup.zip (version 8.13, MD5 2b9a4dc20e6acc32cc9e4636b1d5eafa) or knows of a legitimate archive containing the original file, I would greatly appreciate a copy or a pointer to where it can still be obtained. I'm trying to preserve a legally licensed installation—not bypass the HASP protection—and simply need the last compatible runtime needed for my original USB dongle.

Success! I was able to get Chief Architect Version 10.08b running again under a Windows XP SP3 virtual machine in VMware Workstation Pro using my original Aladdin HASP USB dongle.

The key was not using the newer Sentinel runtime packages. The solution was to use the original HASP drivers included on the Chief Architect installation media. Once those were installed, Windows XP recognized the USB dongle immediately and Chief launched normally.

For anyone trying to preserve an older licensed installation:

• Windows XP SP3 in VMware Workstation Pro
• USB controller set to USB 2.0
• Original Aladdin HASP USB dongle
• Original HASP drivers from the Chief Architect install CD
• Updated successfully to Version 10.08b
