Dim Snapping to Wall Layers

I have a wall that is 8" block, 1 1/2" polyiso, 2x4 stud, 1/2" GWB. I am unable to use any of the dimension tools to snap to all of the wall layers. I've tried moving the wall 'layers' with block as the main layer and everything else interior layers. I've made the block, foam, and stud all part of the main layers. I've set the dimension default settings to snap to primary, secondary faces etc. For some reason, my dim strings will only snap to certain wall layers, ignoring the rest. I could draw three separate walls, one for block, one for polyiso, and one for stud/gwb, but then what is the point of having the wall layers at all? If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it. I tried calling support and they suggesting paying for a training session (150/hr!).
