Landscape/Outdoor best practices

Hi Chiefs,

I am trying to find the best way to design a front yard and side yard landscaping.

First pass, I used slabs and garden/turf. This looks fine, but doesn't let me set materials correctly (as it wraps the whole slab in tile) and sublayers (like thinset or concrete base).

I wanted to know what the best or most common method is for designing an outdoor patio/side yard, while still being able to design sprinklers/drains/lighting.

  • I tried using room dividers to make a "room" outside. This worked well, but required messing with the dividers as they kept reverting to Interior-4, so I had to set the depth to 1/512. This seems to work the best, but I don't know if there is something I am missing
  • Keep using slabs, and place floor material regions ontop. Hacky since the outdoor "floor" is lower, so I have to transform the material regions
  • Use exploded 3D solids. This lets me set material on a single side, but doesn't let me set layered materials like thinset
  • Another, better way that I haven't thought of?

Thanks!
