This might be a ridiculous question - but - can I get rid of my old versions of Chief? I have X15 but still have all the older versions still installed on my computer. I have been horrible at file management and have used 641GB of my available 952GB with most of it being old plans. I am slogging through my old files and deleting a lot of plans, but I also noticed that old versions of Chief are pretty big (@600MB). How do you all manage files? I have always ignored the prompt that asks if I want to manage files which seems to have been a bad idea.

Thanks everyone. I used to use the Closet Plus catalog and am glad to know why I can't access it anymore. This catalog from rabbittdesign looks great.

Is there any type of closet system catalog available? In previous versions, one of the cabinet catalogs (Canyon Creek I think) had closet components (partitions, long hang, double hang, shelves, etc.). This doesn't seem to be an option anymore and I can't find anything comparable in searching catalogs. Do I need to build the closet using cabinet components?

I thought I would start here before calling SSA. I just installed X14 (was using X13) and upgraded to Windows 11. Since then (yesterday) I have been receiving the attached error message. Chief shuts down, I reopen it, continue working, and everything "seems" fine. I just updated my signature to reflect my computers specs. I got a new system at the beginning of the year which my IT guy assured me is more than sufficient for Chief (I am not a computer person). Any ideas? I can contact support but I have been successful here with all you Chief gurus.

It seems the pet doors in the catalog are designed to go in a wall. Is there a way to insert a pet door into a door?

I want it to look like this:

Thanks for the input. I get using the shape tab for the top, but I don't know how to use it for the bottom. I'm not going to spend a ton of time on this - we are replacing this unit and adding a portico so the current window is going away. I was just curious about how to do it and if there's a way to shape the bottom of a window.

I am drawing an as-built of this house. How do I do the top arched transom?

Thank you for the replies. I did update my Nvidia driver and everything seems to be working better.

I installed X11 about a week ago and everything seemed fine - until today. When logging on I got a message that my video card could not handle advanced lighting techniques (I think?) and now my perspective full overviews are messed up. The thing is, it's been fine until now. Did I inadvertently change something in the settings?

Explode CAD Detail Block Text Disappears
BethVanDeusen replied to BethVanDeusen's topic in General Q & A
It worked! And FYI, the text is under "Dimensions, Roof" and that is weird. -
I am using a CAD detail from the bonus catalog for a wall section. When I explode the block to edit the section, the text labels disappear. I've tried seeing if something is turned off in the layer display options to no avail. Attached is an example of the original detail and the detail when I explode it. I can explode/edit CAD details from the regular library. Any suggestions?

Thank you Alan! That was easy.

In previous versions, I would take an orthographic floor overview, send it to layout, go back to the floor plan, rotate the camera 180, reselect the ortho floor overview, and have the "opposite" view of the plan, then send that view to layout. So I had side-by-side versions of the plan from two different views. Now when I do it, the layout view is connected to the OFO so when I rotate it, it rotates on layout (it didn't do this before - the OFO wasn't connected to the layout). How can I get parallel views of a plan in OFO?
-
Thanks Dermot. I get the reasoning but on a cabinet plan I want the labels facing the room. Your solution worked.
-
The cabinet labels on the side wall of the attached plan will not face the way I want. They are currently facing the wall and I want them rotated 180. When I do this, they automatically revert to the current orientation. I have played with the settings but to no avail. Any ideas???

Thanks again for the help. I was able to import the DXF and trace/redraw over it. As stated, I'm a little technically challenged but that was pretty easy.
-
Thanks for the responses. Is tracing faster than a redraw? Sounds like redrawing is the simplest thing for me.

I posted earlier about converting a Sketchup plan to CA. The person who claims this can be done says using Inkscape will allow me to take the plan, put it in Chief, and edit it. I'm assuming this only works in 2D. Also I am not technologically savvy like many of you so use small words and simple explanations. Or just tell me it's easier to redraw the plan in Chief instead of messing with this other program.

I do some work for a contractor who heard from a draftsman that there's a program or app that can convert a Sketchup plan to CA. He claims the plan will magically import and I'll be able to do revisions. This sounds too good to be true (which means it probably is). Anyone heard of this?

Thanks to all for your responses. I did contact tech support and it was a video card issue. Updated driver installed and all is well.

I am having an issue when I use the wall elevation view. Cabinets/appliances will partially disappear. When I scroll in or out, they will sometimes reappear. This does not happen if I do a cross section view. See attached example. I have not had this issue in previous versions and it only happens with wall elevations.

David, Thanks so much for your reply and the video. That fixed it!
