I am having a similar problem, except my AVI file is showing up white. I tried downloading XVID, but that did not solve the problem. I also noticed there there is something strange going on with 3D camera view where the image will render, but will then go blank (white) until the mouse is moved or a key is pressed to change the camera angle. Video card drivers are up to date and support Open GL 3.1.
