    Addition

Hi; I sent the PDFs just to give you a picture of what I'm dealing with. I'll send the Plan file now if you're willing to give it a look. There is no addition drawn as I could get it to work. Thanks again, Henry Existing GH w proposed Tower.plan

    Addition

Thanks for your help; I completed a while ago a drawing of existing conditions. This is a residence which incorporates a 1920s Lord and Burnham greenhouse, and two other structures on three levels. The greenhouse, and the building several steps down from it, are all incorporated in the "second floor" part of the drawing. The owners would like a two-bedroom addition in the form of a tower (the height will allow a view of the Hudson River). The idea is that the first floor, or ground-floor, of the addition be at the same elevation as the greenhouse floor. This very unusual grouping can definitely accommodate another unusual piece. I have drawn a sort of test structure on the flat area next to the greenhouse, but cannot seem to add floors to it. (Drawing the curved eave greenhouse and the intersecting curved eave piece that connects to the house stretched my abilities with Chief Architect to their limit. In fact it really isn't fully drawn as some of the connections were never really resolved. It could be that hidden in there is whatever it is that's causing my problem.) Thanks again, Henry

    Addition

Wish I knew. When I use it on what should be identified as wanting a third floor added to a second floor, it offers fifth or sixth floors. And if I go ahead and try and produce a new floor nothing appears.

    Addition

I am trying to design an addition, connected by a breezeway, to an existing complicated structure. This building, or rather connected group of buildings, sits built into a hillside with retaining walls. There is a flat area on the site onto which we would like to build a tall, tower like, addition. I cannot seem to get started on it. If I draw walls and adjust the floor heights to match where it's going to connect the existing building, I can create a first floor but I cannot get the program to generate additional floors. I will attach a PDF overview for starters. Anybody with an idea about what's wrong I would be greatly appreciative to hear from you. The proposed site is the flat area between the greenhouse and the other buildings. Thank you, Henry Proposed site overview.pdf
  6. Here again is my question about how to create a highly textured field stone wall.

    Thanks,

  7. How can I create a heavily textured surface such as a field stone wall that reads in 3D? This would require, as an example, that the outside corner of a field stone wall show stones projecting out of the plane of the wall.
  8. The above said, the configuration with the two glass corner windows is incredibly unstable. Any tweaking in the vicinity and I lose the corner windows.
  9. Hi all; I cleaned up the various room dividers and came up with a cheat to keep the windows all sitting on the same floor elevation. Worked! Thanks for tips. I've attached the file with the fixes in place. Proposed2.plan
  10. I suspected as much, but in fact there is an 11" change of level there and I don't know how else to make it draw. H
  11. Here is the file; There are two inside corners on this that are supposed to be glass corners where porch meets kitchen. I can't make the program draw them for some reason. Works fine if I make a dummy to practice on. Appreciate any ideas. (I use X10). Henry Proposed2.plan
  12. I'm back with the inside corner window problem. There is something about the configuration that won't let it work. This is an as-built condition and I need to get it right. Anybody want to take a look at the file and see if they can make it work?
  13. Thanks for your input, all. I tried a dummy set up and made the inside corner window work perfectly. Apparently it is something about the particular configuration I am trying to use it in that is causing it not to work. The two windows are each above a floor at a different height frm the other. Maybe that's the problem. Henry
  14. I know how to make a window pair that meet on an OUtSIDE corner with the glass mitered together, but can't seem to do the same in an INSIDE corner. Any tips? Thanks, Henry
