Designating Top of Subfloor in Relation to Terrain
Gtomer replied to Gtomer's topic in General Q & A
Thanks for the tips. Ill mess around with it. I wish Chief handled floor / elevations like Revit. So much clearer to how my brain works. -
I have a project that is 2 stories First floor is a garage slab with a stem wall perimeter. Second floor is the living area. Top of Garage Slab is elevation 0 Roads, Sidewalks show up in a floor 2 Plan but not in a foundation or floor 1 plan even will all layers I want set to display. Any Ideas? Thanks

Hi I'm new to Chief Architect, migrating from Revit so not ignorant of how these softwares work in general. I have a pretty firm grasp on most of it, but the way Chief Architect deals with elevations (walls, floors etc) Befuddles me. Specifically in relation to the terrain and what gets displayed in plan views. Hoping to find an "in person" tutor to answer my specific issues. Zoom is......Ok, but would rather cut to the chase and not waste time sharing screens etc. I live in Santa Cruz Ca. and willing to drive. Anyone out there willing to help? Thanks

Im hoping there is a way to group layers to reduce the endless scroll in search of the desired layer. Example: all framing layers can be collapsed to reduce the length of the list. Thanks

Never mind....found it. I sometimes find how things are phrased in chief architect is confusing.

Is there a way to lock the second segment of a leader line to the text so when I move the text, that second line stays horizontal to text, instead of creating a new angled segment that I then need to edit? Thanks

Hi, I am trying to model an "as-Built" for a really old house (1905). Structure from ground up: foundation wall > framed pony wall > sub floor etc. I am attempting to model this with a wall with a pony wall. however, pony wall reference is to the first floor. How do I model the pony wall "negatively" - below the sub-floor of the first floor for the pony wall? Also, Under pony wall there are 2 options: 1. Elevation of Lower Wall Top 2. Height off Floor When I edit one the other automatically matches the other. Whats the point if they are effectively the same? See Pics ( I can force the whole thing but doesnt feel correct ) Thanks

Thanks For the reply. Im learning to ask my questions more precisely... The linking to a detail page isnt my problem. My question, I guess, is assigning a label to a detail so when I Place it on a sheet it automatically displays the number (call out Label).

Hello again! My question pertains to Layout and Labels. I successfully assign a Label to Cross sections, so that when placed on a sheet in Layout there is a Label number to reference to. However, when I attempt to use the same process for CAD details or Plan Views, its a whole different option list. It is greatly pared down and the opportunity to assign a Call out Label number isnt available. I guess I could manually place a text number in the detail circle but it seems like there should be a way to do this. Attached are 2 images.... Thanks

Thanks for the response. Ill Play around with that. On another note since Im here, I dont seem to be getting notifications to forum responses eventhough I have chosen to "follow" the thread. I end up having to dig through the forums to find responses to my question. Im sure its user error but need to know what Im missing. Thanks Again

OK, I want to create a layer so I can draw "Hidden" CAD Lines on a Roof Framing Plan. The layer gets created but all attempts to draw a CAD line wont allow me to put these lines on my "hidden" Cad Layer. They Default to CAD Framing, and I dont want to change that line style. Any Ideas?

Thanks for your clarification on this. I finally understood how this helps with camera views etc. Before my thinking was "it is just as easy to manually edit each page sheet". By including the page info is handy down the line. Thanks again!

You did answer it and it really helped get me going. However now I need the pages that the macro on sheet "0" to stop deploying. For example, My sheet macro on sheet "0" is A%page% and this works perfectly until I want the "A" to quit being the page letter, and I now need the sheet to display a "D" for details and start the numbering from 1 again. And I cant figure out how to override the macro to manually insert a new numbering convention. I hope this is more clear. I may just have to manually insert the sheet numbering convention and forget about the macro? Thanks again.

I know this is been done to death at some level but not finding an answer my specific need (its all about me). I have been able to get Layout to report sequential page numbers (i.e. A0, A1...etc) and report to the elevation and section callouts. Big win! But if I want to "interrupt" or insert sheets that dont follow the Macro # on the template sheet, how is this done? Example: Title sheet-T1 General notes-T2 Architectural drawings (site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections) -A0 through whatever... Details - D1... Civil- C1... Green Building-GB1... etc...... Is there a way to handle multiple sheets with different categories? or do I just bite it and enter them all manually? Im a Revit refugee. I like Chief as it suits what I do better, but some things I miss... Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the help last time I posted. I need the door headers to display as a single solid header, not 2 2x's (Here in Cali I get brownie points for using LVL for headers) Cant seem to figure it out. Also, In an cross section cut view, the terrain doesnt seem to have a cut pattern, which is very useful. Is there a box Im not checking? My online search has left me thinking that I need to draw this CAD style manually?! Thanks

That was it! Thank you for your help!

Hi, Making the jump from Revit and so far loving it. My question today is about Elevation tags. I set up my Layout sheet with the Macro on the page number as such A%page% Intent being to insert an "A" before the sheet number (common where I am at to differentiate architectural from other types of sheets) In layout it works perfectly, displaying the letter "A" with sequential numbers as I hit the arrow buttons and move through sheets. However on my Callout Elevation Tags the letter "A" is missing from the sheet info Attached is a COMPOSITE image of my page number not matching the callout. The callout actually lives on a different sheet. Thanks!
