  1. I cant find anything on what must be a strange wall between roofs. This first problem has to do with vaulted ceilings... Here i have two rooms that share open space, but each on different floor heights (same floor in plan). They both have similar roof planes, but the higher room has roof raised about 2' higher than the other. This creates a space between the roof planes: There is no wall in the rooms underneath this split roof, except the beams that will traverse from a central tower (at the ridge) downward to the outer wall baseline. I imagine the resulting "attic" wall must be built on a thick beam, but it will be framed, for support and strength, so it will be an actual wall (with either stucco or siding). I can draw this up on paper but i dont know what i need to do to assemble this (im using CA11). Additionally, i need to build a dormer-type gable connected from the lower roof (using a vaulted ceiling, remember) outward to a projecting foyer for the front door. Every time i try to insert a gabled roof, the roof extends inside the vaulted ceiling. And i cant insert a dormer because it must extend past the main roof plane out to the front gable. If anyone can help with one or both of these problems, i would greatly appreciate it. Even a link to an article or solution would be helpful.
  2. Thank you! Very clear and concise! Took some figuring out what commands will help. So here's what i did: 1. Selected the tower walls on the first floor (8 in this case), but on the last wall, ctrl-right-clicked to select and pull up the context menu. 2. Selected Copy/Paste, then brought up the 2nd floor and selected Edit >> Paste >> Paste Hold Position, which put it exactly in the same spot. 3. Selected the resulting room polygon, double-clicked, and unchecked Floor Under This Room in the Structure page. I checked in the 3D view to confirm it did exactly what i wanted. Thanx to you both for your help!
  3. Ok. So i guess i have to copy the room on the 1st floor to the second floor since i cant bring the walls up to extend thru it. I cant figure how to copy the tower room. Anyone have any ideas! CA11
  4. So i have to make a separate room with its own walls (aligning with the walls below) on each floor? That seems counterintuitive.... Some walls extend up thru higher floors — i've seen it. Thats what im going for.
  5. I have a central room which will serve basically as a stairwell that extends thru two floors, but the room is actually a 3-story tall stone-and-mortar tower with a room at the top (yes, like a castle). I have the room created on the first floor, but it's not showing as extending through the upper floors. What settings do i check to make sure that it's one continuous tower, and it shows in each floor? I've tried searching through these forums and the help manual, but I must not be using the correct search terms. It seems like a simple problem, but I'm not finding a solution.
  6. I've scoured the internet looking for an architectural symbol that I can use in CA 11 for a round bed. 6 ft in diameter is fine, but I need to plant it in an unusually shaped bedroom. I didn't see one in any of the free or paid symbols for Chief Architect. I'm hoping someone in the community can link me to a download. I might even consider paying with a symbol.
  7. Okay, i followed the advice of @Chopsaw, by removing the curved wall and instead drawing CAD arcs and lines to replace it. I converted the closed shaped to a polyline solid, then placed my arched cutout (the solid which i already created) into the exact spot where i wanted the subtraction. I'm really streamlining this explanation, because it took me plenty of trial-and-error to set everything correctly. I then selected the wall shape, did the subtraction with the arched cutout, and fnally got it EXACTLY the way i wanted! To wit: A suggestion for anyone trying to do complicated solid construction: When doing subtractions, make sure the shape you're using extends beyond the faces of the main solid (that you're subtracting from), or it will leave a "face" on the side that wasnt subtracted all the way thru. This includes the wall sides as well as the ceilings and floor sides. I ended making a cut along the floor face of the wall solid, which caused a texture conflict between the room floor texture and the cutout texture on the bottom face. (The only way to solve that was to lower the wall so the leftover face was below the room floor — ugly and time-consuming!).
  8. Thanks so much @Chopsaw! You have a grasp of what i need to do. Those are detailed enough instructions that i should be able to make a go of it. Incidentally i cut my teeth on 3D-space modeling with Unreal's subtractive methodology, so this is instinctive to me. It looks like CA11 has the tools i need to get it done. I'll let you know if im running into problems.
  9. No this is the way its going to be built. The "space" between the curved living room wall and the straight garage wall is concrete fill, but thats secondary. Its the cut of the arched hall thru the masonry thats important. The walls of this little hall will be stone — the same as the length of both walls. In your suggestion for a subtractive cut, i need instructions on how to set that up. I couldnt find in any of the help pages how to make that. (Maybe i wasnt using the right search words!
  10. User of CA 11 on windows 7 64-bit. I need to place an arched mini-tunnel thru an unusually shaped stone interior wall. On the left is the living room, and there is a small arched doorway leading to the door from the garage on the right. The problem is, the passage (shown for reference by the box) cuts into the curve of this stone masonry before opening to the garage wall, and i cant figure out what tool or process will help me get a cutout of the wall. And a search in the forums gave hints, but no solution to my particular problem. I am open to reworking this odd wall if theres no other way. Can anyone provide a solution?
