Not totally sure what the issue is...but, I deleted the deck roof. Redrew the roof and placed a new skylight and it worked fine.

Must have been the frieze, then. I have them removed from all other roof planes. I kept them when I redrew this one but reduced the size to .125". Thank you for your help!

I looked and do not have a solution. Suggest sending the plan to support.

I noticed you are not making use of default settings, in rooms and for roofs for example.

Defaults guide the program and setting them as you work should save time and potentially produce a better model.

Here is a video on how roof defaults and manual roof planes interact.

I noticed your creative use of corner boards on the 2nd floor. You might consider using a Molding instead, and on the 1st floor instead of the 3D Solids. Chief has info -- search the Chief website for belly. This video of mine might give you some ideas too.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

I work with many different houses with different clg heights and roof styles, spending time on all the default settings isn't my first step when each house level has different heights. Most houses have more than one roof pitch, also.

I've seen chief files where people have 3D solids for beams and the material is porcelain . I just put my 3D solid on the Corner Board layer to get it off the CAD Default layer. If I was concerned about a materials list, I would make it more accurate.

I'm 100% self-taught on this program and can usually figure out my mistakes and know where fudging can be done, but this overhang issue has me baffled. Similar issue last month, but we figured out it was because Chief thought the uncovered porch below was a room.

Your welcome, it took a little trial and error and when I deleted the 2nd floor wall those brick columns went all the way to the roof in the area with the overhang missing.

Hey Gary - do you use Twinmotion at all? Before this fix, I was able to import the 3DS file into Twinmotion, but now it glitches and does not load. Wondering if you (or anyone reading this) could try it on their end to see if TM imports the file.

    Thanks!!

I didn't even think about those being rooms, Did notice their behavior changed when I deleted the upper walls. I'm only two months into CA full time and still learning all the quirks.

    Thanks again!

  5. Not sure I worded that right. CA X14 - I have a front porch with a half wall detail above for a modern look. Chief thinks this is a room (marked as "Unspecified" in dbx) and so does not complete the eaves on the adjacent walls. Is there a work-around for this or should I just stick a 3D solid to it and call it a day?

Pictures with and w/out a roof to show how eaves react. Unable to upload .plan file due to size.

  6. **Edit**

Solved - Default Hardware cannot be picked separately from the door frame. I changed all the door handles/locks to specific types, and I was able to select them.

Thank you for your patience and help!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hardware is imbedded into the door frame, not the door, or by itself. I've not seen how to get the hardware under the "Door E03" item.

  7. Thank you for your time and information. I know I can use Twinmotion doors, but I was wanting to animate the specific doors I've created in CA. Some are custom.

There is more than one way to accomplish this, depending on whether your workflow imports as Collapse by Material, or Keep Hierarchy. This example uses Keep Hierarchy and a hinged exterior door.

    1. Export from Chief as DAE.

    2. Import, Keep Hierarchy.

    3. Select the door, which will highlight the object reference in the Scene tree. Rename the object's containing folder so it's easy to find in the tree (for later).

    4. Select the door hardware, and rename the folder.

    5. Open the Library and navigate to Objects>Doors>Rotating Doors. Select Simple Rotating 01 and drag-and-drop it onto the door object, a blue rectangle should appear to indicate the operation is valid.

    6. Return to the Scene tree and turn off the visibility of the door and the door hardware (this is why it's important to rename the containing folders).

    7. With the Twinmotion door selected, adjust the properties as desired. Then you can animate.
