Chief16Designer, Thanks! That almost works. However two problems remain: Please see the attached pics. 1) In the 3d pic you see the roof is present inside the dormer. Explode didn't bring along a hole in the roof. OK no problem, I'll click on the roof and draw a hole. As soon as I do this I get the popup: "Two holes in this roof plane intersect each other or are superimposed". The error keeps popping up until I delete the hole. I never have two holes. 2) In the top view you see the wall circled in red -- why is this here? I understand it is an attic wall due to the 1st floor below, perhaps it needs to be there to represent a mere few inches of wall height at that location. But it conflicts with my exploded dormer at points P1 and P2 which is not what I'd like... How do I get rid of this wall so my dormer walls can be happy? I've updated the .plan file at the original link above; here is that link again.

Hello fellow Chief users, In this plan I have two dormers. I want to put a third auto floating dormer between them. But it's complaining that there are walls there so it can't add the dormer, when in fact these are 1st floor walls so shouldn't matter. Can anyone help?

para-CAD, thanks for the detail you pasted! You have a 2x6 and a 2x3 mudsill side by side. Just to make sure I understand: The hanger is hanging from (nailed to) the top of the 2x3, right? And the 2x3 is nailed horizontally into the 2x6?

Treated wood is more "treated" on the outside I think? Or is it uniform all the way through? Anyway my concern would be if you rip a 2x10 and you rip off some of the more treated wood and end up with some less treated wood... Sorry, what is PT?

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll attach the updated detail. However I realized my sill plate was exactly 8", not 7.25" as it would be if it were a 2x8. The stem wall is 8". Therefore I have a problem -- either I leave gap "A" that's unacceptable for the joist hangers, or I leave gap "B" which is a weird gap on the exterior. "A" and " are in the attached. What should I do in this situation? I assume "B". (Also note Bob-Roraback I think I'm exempt from TJI underside fire membrane since I have auto sprinklers and the crawlspace has no appliances and is not intended for storage. I didn't know that though so thanks for the tip, I researched it.)

I'm pretty new. I created my first wall detail in Chief. It was fun! But can you tell me if I missed anything or if there is anything you would change?

I'm seeing weird tan/grey lines and slivers on my elevations on my layout. If I right-click on the elevation and Open View, I don't see these weird lines and slivers in the .plan file. Only in the .layout file. I tried to attach the .layout and .plan files but the .plan file is >14 MB even when zipped; the .layout file is small so I assume it's just a shell for the data references and is is useless without the .plan file So I'm attaching an image. Hopefully someone has seen this before?

When I create foundation, region "A" in attached image always forms with floor joists and seems to be responsive to changes in Build Foundation dialog. For example in region A, I can hang the joists, or not, and the joist parameters will adjust each time I rebuild the 1st floor floor. However Region "B" in attached image doesn't seem to ever form the basement ceiling / 1st floor floor correctly. Above Region A there is a room. I've tried combing through the Room Specifications of that room, and of each of its walls, to find out what is different about that room -- but I don't see anything different. If I delete that room by removing one of the walls, region A goes away and it is all the undesirable Region B. In the end I just want regions A and B to be one big merged region (I don't want the foundation walls around A, but it puts them there automatically), and for that big region to be spanned by regular floor joists. 232x Driveway house (2).zip
