I'm trying to clean up my components so that I can generate a cleaner material list. I have ICF walls. Chief created this as two different foams components for the inside and outside. They are purchased together so I deleted one of them and relabled the other to ICF Blocks. I also had another custom component called wall area that was thermal envelope area. It looks like when I deleted one of the foam components, now my wall area went to zero making me think that somehow Chief was using that one specific foam component to calculate that. How can I get this back? I don't see what to toggle on my other foam component to get thermal envelope to start calculating again.

How to push updated 'components' for object from Library Browser into Plan?
pattyw replied to pattyw's topic in General Q & A
It's an object I created which is just a simple geometric shape. -
I'm reading the help. It says I should be able to click the row number and then delete. I've tried the del key and menu option. I tried rows with Use checked and not checked. Nothing deletes.

How to push updated 'components' for object from Library Browser into Plan?
pattyw replied to pattyw's topic in General Q & A
Thank You. So many toolbars in different places. I had to right click on the toolbar and turn that toolbar on/off to figure out which one it was. So now I do see that has some "Library Object Painter" icons. Found "Replace From Library" in help. All the icons are initially disabled except for the lat one to toggle mode. So I click that one, and then they all enabled and it's default to plan mode. It documents a "Component Mode" but that is the one icon I don't see but says it's the default, but then says replaces a single instance. I tried plan mode, but that changes the entire object for every instance on the plan. I just want to update the components of the object for all that are in the plan. I don't want to completely replace the object with the one from the library as the dimensions may have changed. -
Thank you for the video, I learned some new tricks in that. I had tried that feature but it didn't do exactly what I wanted. One thing I failed to do in my test file above was offset the walls. I've attached a new sample file. I'd like the topmost roof to auto build like in the 1st image. The 2nd image is with the alcove setting. RoofIssue4.plan

Attached are 3 pics and a plan. The 1st one is the base with the walls where I want them, but the roof has those two valleys. The 2nd one I played with the overhang on that inner wall until the valleys went away, but then it opened up that sofft. I'm wanting that left soffit to match what it's doing for the right. The 3rd one, I left the overhang alone, and instead put it an invisible wall. That fixes the roof and the cross section, except that now the lower roof is stopping at that invisible wall. Is there a fix for either 2 or 3 above? I like #3 approach the most, but currently use 2 since only the cross section is wrong. RoofIssue3.plan

Trying to model Insuldeck. 3d object not fully rendering in cross section.
pattyw replied to pattyw's topic in General Q & A
ok, I think I get it. Don't put in a 10' section. Just add a ton of 6" sections and then no matter where the camera is placed, it will render properly. Thank you, I will try that. -

The tiebeam is a 3d primitive. The insuldeck is a symbol (is that what it's called when added to UserLibrary?) that I created from 3d primitives. -
I have a small inset wall between two walls further out. The auto roof was trying to keep the same overhang and inserting valleys, etc. I changed that wall so that the roof overhang would push it out to match up with the other walls. Yeah, roof builds like I want. However when looking at a cross section, it's now building up that wall higher. I don't need it to extend that wall higher. The trusses will rest on the original wall height, just stick further out. Is there a setting I'm missing to do what I want?

The ends of the tie beam are not in the camera view but it cleanly renders the square outline. I do see what you mean. I moved the camera so the end was in the camera and now it does draw the entire slice of insuldeck including the shading. There's no way to get it to do that no matter where the camera is? -

Oh, duh! thank you! Why does the TieBeam symbol properly render? -

I'll post my test plan from above but am confused with your last statement. If I attach the plan file to this thread, you won't be able to open it in Chief? -
So my original design was going to be columns holding up tiebeams and then the next floor would be resting on top of the tiebeams. I was doing the tiebeams as pony walls with the tiebeams being the top part. I'm thinking of switching to Insuldeck which would be integrated with the tiebeams. So my entire plan is falling apart. With the new design the tiebeams are no longer really a part of the ceiling below but integrated with the floor above. So I'm experimenting with a test file where I will model the 2nd floor structure as a 16" air gap and then insert 3d objects. It was kind of working till I cut a cross section. Why is my Insuldeck 3d object (I've added as a symbol to my user library) not being fully displayed in cross sections? Depending on where I move the camera, different portions render, but it's very little. Would be nice to be able to see the full proper cross section.

Thank You! I tried this trick and it worked quite well! It's nice having everything in one file. Would be nice if CA had a way to calculate fill/cut volumes between the two.

When I was using Home Designer Pro 2021, the material list would include some thermal envelope numbers that were helpful. Now that I've upgraded to CA X14, they're not there. Is there a flag I missed somewhere?
-
ok, thank you! I did find inside the change floor/reference that it looks like I can pick a different plan file to use as a reference. I guess that's better than nothing, but then if something changes in the home design, ugggh. I would need to make sure the house is completely finished. Or maybe I will experiment with an empty plan file that just has the existing terrain and the plan file with the house has the new terrain?
-
I've entered the terrain as it currently is from my lot survey, placed the house at the desired elevation, and it's obvious I'm going to need fill. I'm now trying to model what I want the terrain to look like after grading. Is there a concept of before and after terrain? Right now seems like my only option is to change my one and only terrain. I like how the current terrain shows up in my elevations. I was then hoping to model the new terrain and so then I could label the fill appropriately in my elevations.
