  1. I know, but since we use Chief to create CDs and not manuals, a door and window(s) are typically shown mulled together. The trim guys will take care of that in the field....

I am asking Chief to be consistent on their programming because nobody on earth will trim/mull units like that....unless the trimming crew do not know what they are doing

  2. I like this idea, Sherry. I have never used Vectorworks, use Autocad rarely (stopped upgrading at v.4), but this would be a great feature. I like the idea of the layout not updating automatically - shows how different many of us use the program. Sometimes I may move a column on the front porch 1/2" to center it with the dimensions on the plan, or make some minor adjustment that would not be recognized in the elevations or sections at 1/4" scale. I don't want to have to go back and redo all of the "clean-up" I have done to that elevation or section. I don't know about you guys, but I still seem to clean-up the stray lines, unconnected lines, or the occasional incorrect line weight. Chief is much improved in this area, but still requires some attention.

Autocad gives you a message or warning flag that the reference has been changed - it is up to the user to update or not - however, if you save and reopen the drawing it will update all the references automatically

  3. There's been some great demonstrations presented here on applying shadows to elevations. An important consideration as demonstrated by Scotts examples and his client feedback relates to how this effect can be perceived. Adding shadows or any other effect will alter focal points, visual weight and either emphasize or deemphasize particular characteristics of the structure. As with any artistic effect it must be used with a high degree of consideration to these visual impacts so as to ensure an improved design presentation.

Shadows have always been part of architecture, specially for presentation and concepts - look at antique sketches and drawings - I think having them separates me from being just a drafter - Architecture is Art -

  4. I am not an expert Chief user, in fact, have not done a full project in Chief, I have been using it for concepts and 3d visuals etc. I still do my CDs in Autocad Architecture - Please take a look at the attached file -  This particular client wants the drawings a certain way (specially all exterior elevations with shadows, dark glass, showing all wall materials, grades, etc, etc....> Can Chief generate auto elevations that can match the preciseness, look and style? I mean, I know it can, but will it take too much tweaking (time consuming??)

    Thanks for looking

  5. Even simpler....paste a new dim over any existing dims. If this is a complete set of plans, and the change was last minute, paste and go.

I don't think this is the right thing to do - specially when working with a 3d program like Chief, it might seem like a quick fix but in the long run will cause many many problems - I would rather take an extra day and fix it right, once
