is the standard practice to make the light source below the globes? Just trying to make sure it casts the shadows properly and I figured if it was outside the globes it would shadow the bulbs.

Two questions semi-related to each other. 1) When trying to create custom light fixtures, the fixture object is always below where the object actually is, what I mean by that is I have this 59" tall light set of 5 objects I want to convert to a light fixture: Yet when I convert to an electrical symbol and insert it into a plan, the bottom of the object is at the ceiling and the selection box is entirely below it: Not sure what I am doing wrong when converting it to a symbol. I right click all 5 objects and say convert to symbol --> Electrical and then check "Light" in the Symbol Options Second question: I have a 25 light chandelier and I was trying to get it to accurately render the light broadcast by modifying the Chief Architect "Rain Chandelier Extra Long" with 25 light points (the chandelier didn't have that many points despite having that many individual bulbs). Yet when I do that, the light essentially doesn't broadcast anything: This is the chandelier with sunlight turned off Sunlight turned on: I have no idea how to get this to actually light anything up -- I tried changing from "Point Light" to "Spot Light" purely to see if it would at least broadcast below but to no avail.

Not sure what's going on but ever since I upgraded to X14 from X13 everything is super slow -- even really basic things like just opening an object's specifications and trying to click inside the height measurement box causes a delay of about 5+ seconds and every character typed in the box takes at least 1 second to appear. This happens on blank, brand new plans and existing plans. I have tried all of the following: Disabling AntiVirus Turning off all auto-framing Purging all material cache The slowness happens even on non-3D layers (e.g. just plan view) and double clicking on any object takes 3+ seconds to even open specifications. My hardware has not changed since X13 and I still have X13 installed and X13 is now also as slow as X14. I went through and deleted all manufacturer catalogs and user objects and it is still super slow and I am not really sure what else there could be to resolve it. It appears to be something with rendering objects -- as the only thing that is not slow is if I open up Room Specifications - which makes me think the slowness in object specifications is the mini-rendering on the right hand side of the panel. Edit: Can confirm it's something related to rendering - if I change the Object Specification rendering from Vector to "Plan View" the issue within object specifications no longer happens.

Thanks Solver -- That works great for when the stairs are level, but it seems like if you have a curved stair with both sides railings you run into the issue of you can't use two different symbols for the two different railing sides. Additionally, it looks like the change in elevation also warps the railing design. (This is not the same railing symbol as the other one, but was recreated using the same method).

Are you referring to the "Rotation" in the "Edit Symbol"? Because no matter what I type in there, it never changes and if I save and re-open it resets to 90 degress:

Thanks Yusuf, that gets me closer, but when I convert it to millwork it inverts the symbol causing the railing to go in the opposite radius. Do you have any idea how to fix this?

Is there a way to do a curved staircase with multiple horizontal railings? Closest thing by default is the Open with Middle Railing, but I need 6 railings, not one. When I created custom millwork, the railing does not bend with the curved stairs: I also tried the tutorial here: But it appears that window treatments do not bend the the curve of the wall I need:

Hello, I am trying to create some custom furniture, but I didn't want to have to re-invent the wheel with things like knobs that may appear on the furniture. But when I create a new object from 3d polyline, cannot seem to add other materials to it in order to create the completed object: Is there a way to add things like knobs (or anything that is already an object) to something created via 3D Polylines?

Ah yes, they were using the exact same settings. I do feel like (in my limited experience as I am just a lowly homeowner trying to 3d model their house) this is a bug with the material or with the rendering as I cannot fathom standing metal seam ever exposing the OSB underneath using the default settings -- and because it works in other rendering situations (Standard / Watercolor/etc.). -

To be honest, I am not too familiar with bump maps, when I copied the core metal roofing model it had no bump map referenced, just a texture source. When I added the same image to the bump map and then checked "inverted" it reduced the visibility of the OSB slightly, not 100% sure if that's what you're asking though. -

Okay, I got a makeshift work-around to get it to visibly work but not sure if it will mess with anything. In the roof surface I added a 2nd exact replica of the black standing seam Not sure if this might mess up anything else but so far it seems to be okay (inside and out) -

Changed the surface to 10" which still displays the same OSB: Created a copy of the Black Standing Seam, copied the texture source as the bump map, and then inverted it and it changed it slightly (looks like it just is a bit less bright) but it's still there: -

Conversely, deleting the OSB makes it less visible but the material has "holes" in it now which go straight into the attic. -
