  1. Hi all- I am a general contractor based in coastal sonoma county california. We are chief users but looking for a subcontracted chief expert we can call on from time to time to help expedite our design build process. We'd like to periodically subcontract to someone to help speed up as built and proposed plans, make revisions, etc. I typically do this myself but am looking into having a ghost drafstmen we work with behind the scenes to get these things rolling along a bit faster. The plan sets would have our GC name on them but we'd employ a subcontracted draftsmen to do the heavy lifting. California based and understanding of CA code and permit requirements would be a plus. High energy efficiency, passive house design, building science savvy-even more of a plus. We are mostly working with more creative, high end finishes and design so we need to be able to create simple, clean, modern looking plan sets for our design build work. Please respond or send us an email introducing yourself if this seems like a potentially good fit. Nick sunrisehomesteadgc@gmail.com
  2. Hey Guys- This is a tricky one for me to wrap my head around being somewhat new to chief architect. I'm designing a pool house. It is an elongated rectangle with a gable roof. The back half is a bathroom, totally enclosed. The front half is an open area with sink and outdoor showers. There is an existing pool/staircase that the foundation of the pool house will tie into. I want a slab throughout the floor in both exterior and interior spaces and a stem wall along the back that puts the walls/siding 6-8" above grade on the existing top step of the stairs. I've somehow got this far in the design but now that I am going to build walls I am stumped. When I trace the outline and build walls the concrete stem wall gets completely covered up by siding, etc. How can I leave the stem wall exposed and the wall/siding start from stem wall upwards? Also being that the building isn't a full 4 sides I can imagine when I go to build the gable roof that flys out over the open areas as well will be tricky. Attaching a sketch of the proposed build as well as some screenshots of where I'm at. Any advice would be appreciated! Nick IMG_8591.HEIC
  3. @Chopsaw @SNestor thanks guys, I will look into these methods. The flooring idea is good but Ideally it wouldn't have all the butt joint/seams all over. When I do vertical siding I try to keep them one piece lengths as it looks way cleaner. I was wondering if theres a way to take a photo of the material and upload it to chief to make my own material out of it. I'll have to do some more research on that but if anyone knows off the top of their head-let me know! Appreciate your help Nick
  4. Hey Guys- Just got ChiefX12. New to it...I've been browsing here and it looks like an awesome resource. I'd like some advice/tips on creating a vertical t+g cladding that I can use on interior walls and as exterior siding. I want it to have a rough sawn clear VG cedar color/effect like alot of sea ranch homes, etc. Attaching some references. I couldn't find any vertical cladding options in the library...I could be wrong though. Whats the best way to get at this type of finish so I can apply it to walls interior and exterior? Thanks yall! Nick
