Hi Alchemyjim, I have already changed the text attributes of the contour labels but cannot seem to drag the elevation number. Is there a setting I need to change to allow that ?
-
Hello all, Is there a way to control the frequency/location of labels on the primary contour lines ? I have a lot that has a sizeable amount of irregular grade change but Chief only seems to put the labels in one spot which is hard for my geotech to trace what elevation is where on the other side of the lot. FYI, I am exporting a dwg for him which doesn't save the elevation information of the contour line. Thoughts ? Do I need to manually enter them where I want them ? Thanks, Glenn. grading plan.dwg

Hmm, I did not know that. I will go with the line segment idea. Thank you.

I must be missing something simple here. I am trying to create a hatched 2d symbol for some flagstone so my geotech can distinguish the flagstone from my boulders. I have attached a sample plan with the flagstone symbols and associated cad blocks. When I open the symbol and change to my hatched 2d symbol nothing changes. Symbols on left, CAD blocks on right. flagstone 2d symbol issue.plan

No worries, I should have been more clear.

For reference to all that have run up against this, it must be a program limitation of some sort. I tried using a chief core fire material that had an alpha channel png for source texture and this was the result. Green tree on left shows straight through.
-
Was worth a shot, the slider just makes the whole texture more transparent instead. I may just have to live with it as I was probably just trying to get too fancy, lol. I have attached the texture file though (made in GIMP)

Tried all three (F5, F12 and rebuild 3d) to no avail unfortunately. I am wondering if it is something I did in 3ds/sketchup because it is not affecting all the trees, just the ones that have transparency in the texture file.

Hello all, I am at my wits end here with my tree materials. I have transparency on my texture images (png format) for the branches. When I change the materials on one tree in the foreground, looks fine (before picture). If I change the material on the tree behind it, the foreground tree becomes see though (after picture). Thoughts ? Is there a draw order in 3D view ? If I ray trace they are fine but don't want to have to ray trace for every concept image. My plan file is 70MB so cannot upload.

Thanks all. Converting the polyline to a terrain feature worked well enough for me to satisfy the geotechnical engineer for proof on concept on what we were trying to accomplish. Note to self: when creating a new layer for the polyline make sure to turn that layer on in 3d view, oops. This community is so awesome

Thank you Christina, I will give that a shot.

Is there a way to convert a polyline to a stream feature ? My property has an irregular width creek running through it and I have created the polyline with the help of the surveyors drawing but cannot for the life of me figure out the conversion process, if possible. I have tried just following the path with the Chief stream tool, but that just creates a constant width throughout. I also tried using the stream tool and then converting to polyline so I could edit but that turned out to end up with the same situation, getting it back to being a stream. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Plan attached. Creek polyline is on layer names CREEK. terrain with creek.plan

Absolutely brilliant Eric, worked perfectly ! Thank you so much for the solution.

So I decided to manually create the styir rails balluster by balluster, newel by newel to get the look I wanted. My only issue now is being able to put a railing on top of my ballusters. I cannot seem to get the hang of poly solids in this case. I have read the posts about creating in elevation view but I could not get it to work at all. Any thoughts ? Revised plan attached. Here is a photo of the actual space as suggested.

I want to start by thanking all those out there who have been helping others sorts out their issues, the community here is awesome. I am modelling my current house so I can visualize future renovations. My issue is getting railings to line up at the top of my split entry staircase. I have tried all manner or moving wall ends and defining rooms to no avail. My object is to have a newel at the top and bottom of the stairs, rail to post style. I then want the railing at the top landing to run in to the same newel the same way. Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong ? Screen grabs and plan attached.
