Thanxs explaining. Had no clue a serious software as CA ran a user forum a like "Facebook" (in what I am no member) thumbs up or down - what I call a-social.

So, me posting CA terminating when I hit the "Normal" map in a material gets me a "Downvote"? That's puzzling..

.. and .. that got me a "thumbs down". What are your MO? "MAGA" me out of here? No worry..

They are right about your video card not helping your for 3D rendering in x11.  X13 would be required for that.  I'm not expert on CA but you might try posting a screen shot of your CPU ray trace render options - e.g. (Include light and advanced)

I'm new here but some helpful advice I got was put your really nice computer specs in your signature (in case you post again) and the version of CA you are using.

That signature thing, I would not mind much. Hav'nt read it but my best bet that old besserwizzer

This "Downvote" arrow is a completely meaningless, useless and childish way for some one to express their displeasure at your post and you opinion within - anonymously. Those same children will probably come out and give this post a "Downvote" arrow as well. Is it something about the stupid rating system being recognized as childish behavior? Dunno, but I covet them a bit these days so down vote away.

I am glad there is now a thread on this. I took an Alienware X15 with a 3070 to Argentina to train a couple architects on Chief in November last year. I updated to 11 the day before I left and had an odd crash hours before leaving. While down there it got worse. There were no threads here or in the RTX world about this so I decided it was an 11 conflict with Chief. I did a factory reset  back to 10 and reinstalled Chief and everything else. My advice to anyone dealing with this. Go back to 10.

Me I am retiring my A business next fall. Pension, will continue drawing projects that humor me. NO WAY another dime of mine will go to CA SSA, they have to get a grip

  5. >>Any suggestions as to what is causing these performance problems would be a HUGE help. <<

I I where you, I'd stop trying CA render to your liking.

I am no evangelist of (GNU) Blender but, am a in the -90's weekly user turned daily. Last few years it has grown to become an amazing piece of kit, today got patrons like MS, Apple.. Big studios do Blender CGI

    Try this,

    - from a CA 3D view, export "3D COLLADA model (*.DAE)

    - install Blender(.org)

    - (File/)import the exported dae

    - hit that Display Render Viewport Shading button

get blown away - you can spin your 3D view rendered in real time

Then there is how to set up Camera and lights. Atmospheric lighting, depth of field, some hours learning.

My most advanced to-client rendering, from CA export, in 4K, ~5 minutes

Have a look for yourself what Blender rendering was capable of 8 years ago; 20 Jaw Dropping Architectural Renders — Blender Guru.

Today, for us Architects, atmospheric lighting biggest difference those 8 years ago render

There is a profession, being good at in Adobe Photoshop tweaking Architect renderings. They are dinosaurs, as Architects hiring them.

Sorry CA but, You can't win 'em all..

  6. None* of my other more advanced CPU/GPU intense software has any problem/crashes running after my [Samsung Magician SSD] upgrade to Windows 11.

I have come to terms with CA is what it is, take it or leave it. I take it, love CA. Have modified my workflow expecting CA terminating on me when ever I least expect. Today terminating when hitting the "Normal" map button in a material, a new. After done selecting texture and bump files, go figure. No worries, my new me saved prior to open the modal window.

Sometime You just have to resign, letting a computer software do what it does best

    * Excel non-patterned froze for up to a half a minute on me, fixed unselecting [printer] addons

  7. Your experience sounds like mine. X13 on Windows 10 finally [after months] ran just fine. Sigh. "You cant have the library modal on another monitor" the said. Turned out I could.

Upgrade to Windows 11; Oh Boy, all new sudden freeze (zero CPU activity), sudden wham-bam terminations. Feels to me (13 years senior software developer) CA might not got their grip. If I where to go looking I would start at the graphic API. Do some basic stub tests. Bet I [in a matter of minutes] would find a lot of spaghetti

Still, I love my X13 - nothing better out there IMHO

Beside the point, 2 years until [Swedish] retirement (to you not knowers, after that ~75% life long salary from "the Government" (in Sweden we like to think politicians as our employees) 15% tax CA work), gonna hang in there, ride CA SSA just for the fun of it/feeling for You guys

  8. Photo realistic is what you are looking for, I presume. As an avid Blender user since 1997, the evolution of [free] Blender is just mind blowing. Pixar, Apple, Adobe, all the big ones have gone patron investing in Blender the last year. You export dae, import in Blender and your render options are endless.

    Some samples https://is.gd/5f3Squ

If one Blender add-on you might want to buy as an exterior renderer, it's Botaniq https://is.gd/xVMlbw

I know, Blender might feel a bit intimidating for a newcomer, am thinking of writing a step-by-step course on how to export from CA, achieving photo realistic render in Blender.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing so many problems but I don't think anyone can actually help you.  You are trying to use an unsupported and untested configuration (using two separate graphics cards) and we have already told you this is probably the main source of your problems.  If you wish to use the software and experience far fewer problems, then you should disconnect one of your graphics cards and run your multiple monitors using just the one.  If you are still experiencing problems after this, then you should work with technical support because I am confident that they can help you solve them.

Regarding the sluggish cursor in cross section views, if you have not downloaded and installed the latest update (23.2.1.3) then you should do this because there was an issue that was corrected in the update.  If you are still experiencing problems with the latest update, then you will need to work with our technical support team.  No one will be able to answer the "why" without a plan that includes all of the referenced files along with a good description of what you are doing when you experience these slow downs.

Also, the suggestions forum is really the wrong place for this kind of post but I am guessing that you already know this.

My three monitors are connected to the RTX, other GPU card unplugged. What's next? Cross Section View is what Blender was 15 years ago.

I find your post unpleasant. Different I guess you are a millennial perhaps, me not. I have been most back alleys, delt with software gone haywire. Please do not reply, I simply do not care, Chief Architect is to me a goner

It probably has to do with your GPUs and having your second monitor on the GTX-1080.  X13 doesn't support multiple GPUs so you should connect both monitors to the RTX-3080.  You might even want to uninstall the GTX-1080.

This was discussed in another thread.

Yea, but.. how come all other software [n.b. Blender] in my setup improves on and on, keep impressing me. As has Chief Architect done. Then this nose dive. I don't get it. X13 is still usable but man.. these unexpected terminations. It's like back in the -90's, baby software. It does certainly not have anything with my "setup", rather CA devs doesn't have mine.

There is no way I am gonna dictate what to do or don't with my hardware

  12. .. (SEH). Please contact Chief Architect Technical Support with steps to reproduce"

All I did was opening a new Perspective Floor Overview, Edit Active View, rename and hit OK.

As I've done many times in X13. This time, a SEH.

I don't know, don't feel like reporting. This X13 is riddled with unexpected terminations. X12 was a beautiful thing, this X13..

I am at my wit's end, really don't care anymore X13 is soo crappy. Eg, why this sluggish cursor in Cross Section View? Why? In X12 it was silk smooth. It's just a cross section view.

    What are your thoughts?
