With an open floor plan how do I handle floors?  Is there a way to "mark" the rooms so each room is being handled differently?

I am using Home Designer Architect 2018 build 19.3 64 bit

It looks to me like it is trying to match the roof line of the attached house which is two floors.  I would like a 8' ceiling height or maybe a bit more

I have an attahed garage that I want only one floor but cant seem to get the wall height correct.  Can someone tell me how to correct this?
