Uh, I haven't but God bless you for doing this!

Thank you both. I am going to use this now. I will let you know how this turns out.

How long have you been using Chief?,.. if you don't mind me asking.

Almost 10 years now, but about 2 years full time. No ideas about trees beyond what others have suggested. Good luck though.

Okay, So here's what I discovered... The live views slow down the process to a crawl! I tried update on demand only but still, EVERY EDIT to any portion of the layout was reprocessed... At that rate, It's faster for me to reframe the shot and edit the image. Any tips? My machine is a 8th Gen I7 with 32GB ram and a 1080 GPU...

That was a big issue for me for a while. I always use update on demand as that lets me control when it slows down a bit more. The resolution of the pic depends on how big on your screen the picture is when you update it. I thought that I needed it to be high res in the layout file to get it to print that way, but chief reprocesses everything already when it prints. So if you zoom out then update the pic, it will look lower resolution on your screen, but it will use less memory and the file will move faster, but it will still look fine when you go to print. Hope that makes sense. TLDR: update all your views so they are low res and take up less memory.

  3. I'm sure this has been discussed before but I gave up on the search bar after half an hour. I'm trying to put a decorative railing around a flat roof. I drew it in and it looked great, then the model updated and it disappeared in 3d. It was still there in plan view but best I could tell the program wouldn't let the railing wall extend above the roof plane. Which makes sense in normal applications, but I can't seem to find a way around it in the help section or here. So who's going to save my day? I'll post the plan if requested.

  4. I've ran into a few problems before with multiple displays, but nothing like this. Which version are you using? Does this still happen if you switch the main display? This sounds like something to bring to Chief customer support.

  5. You might find the point to point dimension tool useful. Try that out. As you get more familiar with the program you get much quicker at knowing which settings to quickly change to get what you need out of it.
