Who is using Windows 10 with X8? Happy with it?

I just did the free download of Windows 10, but I'm not sure I want to keep it. I'd like to hear others' experiences and pros and cons.

I'm using x8 on a Hewlett-Packard HPE-480t, 64 bit system with 3.2 GHz i7 Core processor, IDE drive, and 9G RAM, and an AMD Radeon HD 5700 series graphics card. I use two monitors. The system is a few years old, but still does what I need.

So, what do you like and not like about Windows 10, and has it had any good/bad effect on your productivity, speed or efficiency using Chief?

I downloaded and was not sure about it so I did it on my laptop first which had win8 on it, getting ready to download it on my main computer that I do most of my work on which has win 7 on it, so far I like it since it reminds me or win7 the way it works, so far so good and I am not a computer person so as far as the likes and dislikes I can't help you there but I do like it on the laptop that is why I am going to download on the main work computer.

At home I use the tried and true Windows 7 along with Chief Architect X8.  Yep you will have a hard time prying me away from my Windows 7.  :D   Anyhow, at my work we upgraded the Windows 8 computers to Windows 10.  I use Chief Architect X8 on the work computer and don't seem to have any issues that I know of.

What's wrong with Windows 10? Do you mean besides the

fact that it is the most intrusive invasive inflexible autonomous

software to be unleashed upon the general public to date?

Between software like this and "cloud" storage we might as

well just pack up all our sensitive personal information and

sent it straight to Bill & Melinda.

If you want a computer that starts and stops when it feels like

it. Updates itself with whatever it wants whenever it wants and

takes it upon itself to reverse changes you try to make to it then

Windows 10 will be just the ticket for you.

And who at Microsoft thought that adding an additional step

to the shut down procedure was a productive improvement?

BTW, Windows 10 Home is an extremely egregious offender.

Have four systems, all with Windows 10. Converted them the first day it was available. It is the best widows to date, just takes a bit of getting used to. Don't fret about the privacy fear mongers, Windows 10 is more secure than the other versions. You can control the auto- update and other privacy settings if you wish.

For the life of me I never understood what Windows 10 had that people wanted to upgrade for.. May have been "free" but not really.. Risk has a cost. Thrilled with Windows 7 here. Honestly there is NO benefit of 10 over 7 worth upsetting my cart for.. Now 3.0 to 3.11 for workgroups was a killer upgrade... 3.11 to 95.. sure. But these days like with mobile phones Windows matured back in XP and Microsoft has been out of ideas since.

There is a significant amount of new capability built into Windows 10 in order to accommodate future features. Of course you can hang on to Windows 7 or any other older version but you will be on your own. Microsoft is and has started the process of dropping all support for these older versions.

I have Windows 10.  It is better than Windows 8 (I hated it).   I have to admit that I have most of the apps hidden to make the screen more like Windows 7.  On Windows 8, I downloaded Stardock8, which was a great help in hiding all the "extras" that Windows 8 had.  They were so annoying.

Anyway, I have Windows 10 on my laptop.  It is working well.  Except (as Rich said), the updates are exceedingly annoying.  I find that it wipes out my printer (I have to reinstall) and sometimes I have to fidget with my laptop track pad to get it back to where it was (it wants to put back all the edge swipe things back in).   And, I often end up filing things in the incorrect places -- onedrive/cloud, where-ever.  I have to admit that I have not explored the possibilities in Window 10 -- I just don't have time or interest.  Just need Chief to work, which it does.

I just updated my Chief computer to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate about a 2 weeks ago and am very impressed. I already have it on 3 other desktops and a lap top and it's simply a better OS than Win 7 and I've noticed a couple of bugs that I had with Win 7, like constantly booting to the wrong (of 3) monitor is now gone and the boot times are very, very fast compared to Win 7. One downside is that my HP110 printer is not supported with Win 10 drivers but I usually print to PDF so it's a bit of a non-factor.

I'm not one to ignore Microsoft's penchant for gathering information but I'm also not one to worry about a threat that doesn't exist.

Example is the Windows defender app shown above. If you have it turned off and Microsoft turns it back on your risk of anything harmful happening to you from Microsoft is - nothing. Literally nothing happens but it might catch some Malware like Windows Essentials did with Win 7 so I am happy to leave it on. You have every right to be afraid of the illusion of what might happen but then you'd be missing out on a great OS.

As far as privacy the only problem I've had was that after watching some porn I got a phone call from a nice young lady who wanted to 'party' but I was watching Jeopardy so it didn't work out but other than that no real problems. :o  :o  :o

Larry,

I can print to my HP110 printer in Windows 10.  The old drivers work fine.  I cannot print directly from Chief to the 110, as was the case in Windows 8 and X7.  I can print from PDF without issue.

Windows 10 is a good OS.  I have been using since it's release.  Where it shines is installing printers and other devices, which could be troublesome in W7.

The only reason to avoid it would be incompatible older software or printers.

I have noticed since I installed windows 10 that I have been having problems with some files getting corrupted.

For Example;

Excel, Word and CA file3 changing to a MP3 file and then it is corrupt and there is no going back. They will not open no mater what I do even if I change the extension.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thank you all for your input. The majority opinion seems to be that Windows 10 is just fine. Guess I'll stay with it and learn to work around the annoyances you have spoken of. The local community college continuing ed has a class on Windows 10 coming up soon, think I'll take it.

I have had a problem with my computer freezing up randomly with the only way to proceed being to pull the plug - literally..

Turns out it is caused by a W10 power setting.

I have no more freezes since changing the setting.

Otherwise, I like W10.

Perry,

It is set to Balanced.

the setting is at Advanced Power Settings...PCI Express...Link State Power Management.

I haven't had a problem with freezing since I turned this off.

I think it has also stopped one of my monitors from switching off and on randomly.

Yes.

What power supply do you have ,how many watts? Sounds like a heat problem in your computer, Make sure the fans are running and clean your fans and vacuum it out. It also could be a power supply is failing. Or your power supply is too little for your equip. you are trying to run. Just guessing
