Window Wells

I've used the same Window Well symbols--well, since I started using CA.  But, no more.

Low and behold, the magical symbol monkeys @ Chief Architect have made "smart" Window Wells in the Egress Bonus Library.  Not only do these new symbols cut terrain holes, but they automagically cut holes through multiple layers of Terrain Features--Kudos Symbol Monkeys!  A fresh bunch of bananas for youse guys!

Thanks Jon! We love bananas but prefer banana bread.

We are glad you found value in this catalog!

For early bird clues on catalogs, we have been trying to keep this Album up to date on new releases:

Nice! I had just created my own corrugated well symbol the other day, but I will use these instead. In the one I created, I was frustrated at how the terrain hole was rectangular even though my well had rounded corners... Any secret to getting the terrain hole to follow the shape of the symbol?

Hi Levis!

The key is in the Symbol's CAD Block assignment.

If you block a "Terrain Hole" into the CAD Block that is assigned to the symbol, you can control the shape of the hole that is cut into the terrain.

By default, Chief creates a rectangular hole the size of the object's bounding box. You must manually modify the CAD Block in order to produce an object that cuts a non-rectangular hole.

This is the same idea for Sink objects, but you are substituting a Terrain Hole for a Countertop Hole.

No problem. You do need the "Inserts in Terrain Hole" attribute in addition to the hole in the CAD Block, so you were 1/2 way there!

Here is an article that covers the concept of creating a Custom CAD Block for an object that cuts a hole, in this case a sink.

The same steps can essentially be applied to terrain objects like Window Wells. Good Luck!
