When roof becomes wall

Are you saying the wall there is a roof?....its a wall with treatment to look like the roof extends over the edge (ie battens), but its not a roof in "design" or real life.  The fascia board is being used as an edge detail for the roof down the side of that wall is making an illusion/representation of sorts.  Its hard to tell from the pic, but the other side may be the face/edge of a gamble roof if that is what you are talking about?

Again, its hard to tell from the pic, if there is an angle to that other wall - but it doesn't look like there is an angle to the foreground wall.

Anyway, they have cleverly designed the elements of the home to appear as if the roof wraps the house, but its more a detailed illusion than actual roof that wraps around the home.

Here is a quick concept I did in CA to demonstrate where I think you want to go with the model - maybe I am wrong.  I just show a line drawing render since I didn't want to mess with textures etc.

The slight error in the picture house is the fact I think they were trying to have the "wrap" come around and then at the porch the wall "notch" be as if that portion of roof was twisted/flipped up to form that roof section - but the size of that cutout doesn't match the area of roof they show (its much larger).  I think that could be fixed.... but I may be too picky.

Here is what I came up with. Pretty straight forward.

Standard Gable roof. Used board & batten for wall

material. The roof doesn't really become the walls.

It just has a material that looks like roofing. Didn't

take the time to get all the side wall window

configurations but hopefully you get the idea.

Come on guys , all that time and effort to do examples , and you don't post the plan ......

Like the Others I think it is a Clever illusion , using Hardi Panel or similar by the looks (horizontal flashings).

Thank you for reply. Yes, I think similar: they just applied same meterial and made fascial equal to wall thickness. So we get the illusion.

Actually I tried to solve the model by myself and what I stuck with now is how to make framing for the "porch"

Yes, thank you, it's pretty similar to the reference. I got the idea well.

I have already asked Johny above how he got the porch. May you please give your advice too?

Here you go. Plan is attached. As far as my plans go it's

pretty clean.  :)  I used a couple of polyline solids to

cap off the walls and form the porch ceiling so I could

get the wall material to wrap around underneath.

Wow! great help, thank you, magic green=)

about solids - he-he-he - of course I figured that it can be done with solids) but what shall you do with framing then? ;)

that's why I stuck with this. I understand that the issue doesn't seem to be critial - just trying to experiense CA deeper

btw you got pretty accurate porch *thumb*

That's the way it goes Alex (r u alex?). I usually start out

by seeing if I can reproduce the look of a picture. During

that process I often take liberties I probably wouldn't do

if I was modeling it for myself just to get the look I'm after.

Of course then when more feedback is wanted I have to

scramble to make the plan presentable. :)  I didn't go

as far a checking out how the model will frame because

at this point I would just be guessing as to the composition

of the walls. They look pretty thick in the photo. You might

have to fake some porch ceiling framing but the rest should

be straight forward.

BTW, I don't know who you pi$$ed off to get that scarlet

numeral -1, but I gave you a +1 to get you back to even.

Everybody deserves a fresh start now and then.

Edit:  10:40PM

Just tried letting Chief do the framing. Auto build a

foundation derived from the 1st floor and the have

Chief auto frame everything else. Looks pretty good

to me. That ceiling p-solid is only 1/8" thick so it didn't

really affect the framing. Just delete the 3 p-solids.

Hey, thanks a lot! The framing looks cool. I would add some extra layer or just add some thickness to the existing. In other aspects - yes, what you've done looks similar to what's required. Thank you, Rich (?)

As for the rating I do not know either .. just realized one day that it's -1 .. do not know why.

hope next night I will finish the plan and will compare to yours ))

Thank you!
