Framing Label- converting to feet/inches instead of inches. Need a macro formula

I have using CA for 20 + years and now trying to widen my skills.

I provide a framing takeoff for our framers and it would be helpful to change the lable to ft/in.

I think it is a formula in Macro.

  2-1/2" x 11-1/4" x 20'-6-1/8" [TJI-230] Floor Joist

for lumber the values would be nominal

Look at My file. I want inches on each rafter to be in feet and inches length 336"= 30"-6"

  11'-7 1/2"

I can add another macro at no additional cost to you.  What do you want as the lowest denominator?

The only Macro I need for is to really round it up to the nearest foot for the framers.

If you want it to the nearest inch, you can use "%length.round()%".

 

if you want it to the nearest foot, you can use "%length.to_ft.round()%".

 

If you want it shown in feet and inches but rounded to the nearest inch, you can use "%length.round().to_s("'-\"")%".

but you really should tell them what size & type members:

• I-Joists - size and #
• Lumber - nominal size, material, pressure treated
• Steel Channels
• etc

 

That's all automatic with my macros.  It even indicates if they need to be "PT" (pressure treated).

I like Joe's suggestion of using "ceil" instead of "round" since I believe this will always round up instead of rounding down when you are less than 1/2 a unit.  Wouldn't want your framers to cut things off too short.

Is this for a framing buy list for the framing contractor?

If for buy list it shoud be rounded up to the nearest 2 feet - easy to do
