Has anyone else noticed a sudden surge of downvotes on their service offers?

 

I’m also trying to understand how the rating/review system on this platform actually works.

 

We’ve worked hard with the clients we connected with here and have had positive experiences, so it was surprising to suddenly see our rating go into the negative.

 

What caught my attention is that several of the recent visitors to our service offer appeared to be service providers themselves from Nigeria rather than clients, and some had 40+ upvotes on their own profiles.

 

So I’m genuinely curious: Can someone upvote or downvote a service provider without ever hiring or working with them? If so, what prevents competing service providers from affecting one another’s ratings?

 

I’m not looking to accuse anyone specifically—I’d just like some clarification on how the system works and whether others have experienced something similar.

 

Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

Yes, I’ve experienced something similar today. After applying for a job opportunity, I noticed that my profile received downvotes shortly afterward, including from people I have never worked with or had any professional dealings with.

I find the timing concerning, especially when the votes do not appear to be connected to any actual client experience. I believe ratings should reflect genuine interactions and professional work rather than affect someone’s opportunities based on unrelated activity.

It would be helpful to understand how the voting system works and whether the moderators can review unusual voting patterns to ensure the system remains fair for everyone.

You do have 5 listings on the front page of offering services...this certainly can upset some people not wanting to spam the offering services board just to be seen. 
Also, consider contributing content and information to the boards and you will gain positive upvotes to the extent that it wouldnt matter if you have a downvote
