Question about creating Recessed lighting -Trey ceiling (recessed into ceiling) vs hole in ceiling platform

Hi Chieftains,

I'm looking for help to create a slot in the ceiling of a room to place some eyeball lights. I'm able to achieve the look I want if there is no room above the trey ceiling. I'm trying to figure out how to get the same effect in a room that has a room above it. The perspective on top shows the slot created beautifully!  the cross section on the bottom shows what I'm looking for.

I've tried making a hole in the ceiling, but it goes through the floor. :( When I do this I'm not able to place a fixture in the slot. ( I was just going to fake it with polyline solids, but no luck).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Eric,

I did try this, but it did not work for me. I may be missing some steps. the slot did not appear the way yours is shown.

I ended up just making a hole in the ceiling , adding a tiny bit of ceiling the same size in the hole I made. Later I will patch the floor.
