Trying to Build Manual Wall Dormer

I'm trying to make a shed roofed wall dormer manually while following the "Creating a Manual Wall Dormer" tutorial.

 

I've gone as far as the step pictured in the first screen shot; creating break points in the roof so that I can pull it back to create the dormer roof.

 

The problem is whenever I select the break tool, it deselects the roof and won't allow me to create break points.   

 

Is there some setting I need to change?

Just guessing, but I suspect you are activating the Break Wall tool and not the Add Break tool in your edit menu.  They're 2 different tools.
