why doesn't the bearing lines work constantly?

It's just one of those problems that just waste time and most of the time I have to set some play time to fix. I do notice  the less of those joists direction arrows you use the better it gets, kind of like terrains--less is better and never 2 of the same direction in the same area. I know if anyone can figure it out you can.

Scott,

The plan might help.

I assume the red objects are referenced objects?

What are the cad lines you have selected?

A short plain english translation of what you are trying to do with all the pictures may help us.

Here is the plan.  Most of the time I can get it to work with the correct combination of bearing direction arrows and sometimes breaks in the bearing lines....  but it should not be that hard

Scott,

I am about to run out and haven't got a lot of time.

If the Bearing Line doesn't work, use a wall with the Bearing Wall attribute cheked.

The horizontal red line is a Bearing Line.

The beam is marked as a Bearing Beam.

The walls are marked as Bearing Wall.

PS. the problem with your horizontal Bearing Line is that it overlaps the floor platform.

Have a play with the ends of the line and see what happens when you shorten it up.

Scott,

I played a little more.

The problem occurs where the two short walls in the red circles are.

For some reason the Bearing Line is failing to work at those walls.

If you want to use a Bearing Line, select one or both of those walls and mark them as bearing Walls and then use a bearing line in between.

or,  you could forget about using a BL and make the internal horizontal walls Bearing Walls.

Thanks Glenn for looking into this.  Back to my point,  standing on your left leg holding an umbrella in your right hand,  you may get what you want.  This is such a great feature that CA has given us,  I just wish it would work correctly.

You point ending the BEARING LINE  at the platform edge works sometimes.  Also reshaping the bearing line helps.

Scott,

I think that in this particular case Chief is getting confused with those short horizontal walls on either side of the building.

They do not line up with the internal horizontal wall on each side.

You are drawing a straight Bearing Line - although, even if you shape the BL to follow the walls, it still isn't 100%.

Lucky we have other alternatives  like Bearing Walls.

The fact that those short walls are external walls may also have something to do with the problem.

The other thing that may be contributing  to the problem is the overhanging floor.
