Need Help Converting File For Editing in Home Designer

Hi,

I have a plan file that was created in Chief Architect version 9 that I want to edit in Home Designer Suite 2021.  I contacted User Support for help and was provided the guidance below.  I've already completed the first step to change the file type from *.pl1 to *.plan.  Now I need help from a current Chief Architect user to change the file properties to make it editable in Home Designer 2021.

Done - First, you will need to open the plan with our free Viewer software, and re-save it as a .plan file, since your file is a .pl1 file which we do not use any longer.  Versions 9 and earlier used the .pl1 file format that can’t be opened in newer versions without first converting it.  We have an online article that will help you do this, you will need to download the free Viewer which is linked in the green box within the article: https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00279/opening-legacy-files.html

This is where I need your help - Once you have converted your file to a .plan file, we suggest using Chief Talk https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/ to post a request for someone to open the file in their Chief Architect software and make the necessary changes for the file to be editable in Home Designer.  Here is an online article that describes the process the Chief Architect user will need to go through to do this for you: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00516/sharing-a-plan-file-with-a-home-designer-user.html

Thank you in advance for your help!

Version Number 9 was the last version to use the " .pl-.ca" file formats. the " .plan" started with version 11 or X1 long ago.  It is true that once saved to " .plan" file format, one must also reprogram that file for use in "Home Designer titles", this must be done by a current Chief Premier user and the command is to be found in "General Plan Defaults".

It needs to be editable in HD2021.  The article I linked in my post provide the location of the settings that need to be changed.  Below is the copied text from the linked article.

To allow editing in Home Designer

If a Chief Architect user wants to be able to send a Home Designer user a file, first check to make sure that the versions that both users have are compatible. If the versions are compatible, then, the Chief Architect user needs to allow for editing in the Home Designer programs before sending the file.

  1. Click Edit> Default Settings defdlg.png?1578606448, and in the Default Settings dialog, click on Plan, then click the Edit button.

  2. In the General Plan Defaults dialog that displays, check the Allow Editing in Select Home Designer Products box.

The file was empty.

That usually means that you attached the file while open in Home Designer which always results in a zero kilobytes product. What you need to do is to close Home Designer and then attach the file for uploading here or you can use the provided "File - Back up entire pan" tool and then upload that here or for attaching to an email to share with another user.
