Pass-throughs - can't delete exterior casing

Please see attached photos. I am unable to set exterior casing to 0", and eliminate it like I can with interior casing. The options are greyed out. When selecting the item of placement, the temporary dimensions still attach to the non-existent exterior casing. Is there any way to remove it and have the dimension lines accurately represent the opening, not the casing?

Check your dimensions defaults, locate objects tab and make sure they are set to locate what you want them to.

My defaults are correct. I do want my dimensions to include the trim, but just not for that opening and I could find no way to put the exterior casing to 0. The tip above for separate interior and exterior casing allowed me to untick enter 0 for the exterior casing.
