First thing you are doing wrong is not giving people enough information for anyone to help you. Post a plan file, or at least some renders... Impossible to know what you are doing wrong when we have no idea since we don't have anything to look at (render or plan file). If you do decide to post the plan file, be sure to save and close completely. If the plan file is too large, you can zip it and post usually works.
