Everyone of my Brother printers broke

printing black fine

replaced the cartridge and no black at all

did clean - then secret clean - then super secret clean

Brother was good about sending replacements multiple times

until warranty ran out

I had about 6 of them - same problem with all

no more Brother printers for me :(

"I am interested in the entry level models of HP and Cannon (24" print).  The Cannon is a few hundred dollars more.  Are there companies that have entry level models that you know off the top of your head? "

I bought the Canon ipf600 several years ago. Great printer but expensive maintenance ($300 printer head and $360 for a set of regular cartridge)

For 11x17, I chose the Epson  wf-7620 mainly because it scans that size.

Brother MFC-6490CW

Oldckd:

yesp, that was the first Brother I bought and still use as a scanner

had two replacements sent while under warranty - third time Brother said it was out of warranty - too bad

by then I had 3 other smaller ones that then started having same problem

you are lucky indeed

Dang Lew!

I feel the same way about HP. I have rarely had consistent success with HP Wireless and Network printing. They also eat a lot of ink.

Just connected my new Brother MFC-J6930DW and what a difference!!!! Faster printing than the HP and and way better quality. Even spits out the 11 x 17 in seconds. For the price (Amazon Prime) it was hard to beat so we'll see. This is a great thread and thank everyone who contributes feedback.

Much appreciated,

good luck with the Brother

they did replace my CW model twice but the third time it was out of warranty

still works great as an 11 x 17 scanner

I have one of the 8.5 x 11's setup as a scanner only at my museum

why the printheads die ???
