I need to make a railed walls with following configuration:

 

Rails: 2.5"h x 5"w

Newels: 2.5"w x 5"l

Beam: 2.5"h x 5"w 

 

Since Chief only allows for round or square and not rectangular newels & balusters, how can I create a library rectangular Baluster/Newel post that is 2.5"w x 5"l

Newels in Chief...you can make your own or customize the deck rail many ways.  Here's a quick video...hope it helps you out.

Hi Steve

Nice video again.

There appears to be a variety of objects one can use to build a shape from - counter tops/ slabs/ box/ polyline solids/ even the old cabinet soffit tool, plus starting from polylines and converting.

Is there any reason why one would be chosen over another - which object is becoming the go to one people mostly use?

The soffit tool and the counter top have the moulding link built in, which is handy, but there appears to be other no differences - all methods produce the same end result.

Thanks.  Love the video. While I've successfully created a newel post with the dimensions 2.5"x5"x6' tall, I still cannot seem to get the railing to be rectangular.  

 

No matter what I do, when I add my 2.5"x5" newel post into my 5" wide railing wall, when I set the Newel post width to 2.5" it makes it a square 2.5", and if I set the newel post width to 5" it again makes the a square 5"x5"...

 

I need a galvanized steel frame wall 5" wide with 2.5"x5" newels spaced ever 60 inches.

 

I've included my symbols and the wall I'm trying to put it in...Steel Frame Wall.calibz

Any more tricks I can try?

Basil, I thought maybe I had lead you in the wrong direction and had not tested the theory. However I just ran a test and it seems to work fine.

 

Take a quick check on your railing height and see if that helps.

Hi Basil , perhaps you can explain with an image or something what you are trying to do so we can help more as there are issues with your post and wall

 

The Post symbol says it is 4"x4" x 36" but it's biggest issue is it is orientated incorrectly and I can't seem to rotate it in the symbol DBX to get it correct , in the image below I made my own to fix that but as you can see a 2.5 x 5" Newel post doesn't work at the Corners , will they really be 5" x 5" ?

 

the Railing Wall is set Post to Beam ? and the railing is only 2.5" high ? ( 42" is STD height )  I have a feeling you should read through the help for that DBX (F1 while open) so you can set things up correctly ...I also changed the "wall" in my pic below to what I though it maybe that you want ?  but are sure...
