How do I measure the total height of my home?

Recommended Posts

Greetings all,

This may seem like a dumb question, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'm trying to measure the total height of a structure I designed (from the floor of the first floor to the tip of the roof). The CAD tools are helpful for taking 2D measurements (width and depth), and I can see height information for rooms in the room specification box, but I don't see any tool that tells me the total height of the structure, including the roof.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on this one? Driving me crazy, as I am working with some vertical restrictions.

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the question Shelby.

Unfortunately the data you want is beyond the scope of Room Planner, but can be obtained from one of our Home Designer software products, for example Home Designer Architectural-- www<dot>HomeDesignerSoftware<dot>com.

Room Planner is great for designing and visualizing interior spaces, but has no tool to measure to the outside of the framing of a structure, as would be required when measuring to the top of a roof.

I am creating a 3D visual for a client but here is my issue
the plans I received are in metric so I opted for the metric template BUT the roof plans are regular pitch (ie) 10:12 etc.. How do I change back and forth.  I went into Default for Roof Dimensions and opted for secondary format but pitch still shows as metric.. I AM NOT A METRIC PERSON
How can I adjust this.  Can I change my template and not lose my  information if I convert it to imperial
      Thanks in advance
Here are the two different roof specifications ( i prefer the imperial )
the roof plan  shows various roof planes .  hoping I can get this completed
I managed to convert my metric to imperial measures but my roof plane specification is still showing mm any suggestions
some of the roof planes are \16:12    14:12   10:12  11:12

Open to new work. I've been working remotely for clients for years and can easily navigate the issues that present themselves from remote work. I have plenty of references and videos demonstrating my various services. The following images are snippets from my site at

I offer training-while-drafting services in Chief Architect as well as training in Sketchup, Thea Render, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Procreate.
I tend to cater to experienced designers and drafters in Chief Architect, many of which benefit from and are quite pleased with anno/layer sets, library items, toolbars, and a more cohesive folder structure and .plan and .layout files.
A few hours of my service may cut hours off of every project you have going forward.
Feel free to check out my YouTube channel dedicated to all things drafting, designing, modeling and rendering in my signature below.

      Hi All,
I would like to control the display of CAD line length and angle labels by layer in addition to via the dbx. Is there a way to do this? I know how to use the dbx below under display options, but I have a file with a bunch of different polylines and I would like to be able to turn on and off the labels without opening a dbx for each one. I would also like to display labels with some layer sets and not others for layout views. Thanks for any suggestions!

      Hi All
I am wondering if you can create a new material from polylines.  I have made many new materials from images.  But in this instance I would like to make a series of metal circles to use to "paint" a hemi-sphere.  I could find an image to use to do this, but I want the circles to actually have real holes so light can shine through them.  I have attached an example of this for a light.  I am able to create a series of holes using a circle and the 3D molding polyline, multiple copy them and add to the library, but material is not an option.  This may not be possible...

Just wondering how would I get only the measurements of the building and not tyvek paper, sheet rock, plywood, etc?
