Hi all,

I have a question about tile patterns and wall coverings. I have a shower wall on which I want (bottom to top) two full 12x12 tiles, then a 4" strip of a mosaic, then two more full tiles, another 4" strip, etc. I currently have the tile, which has a texture and a pattern, applied to the wall and wall coverings for the 4" mosaics. In the elevation view, the pattern of the 12x12 tiles is shown as if the wall coverings aren't there, ie directly adjacent to each other underneath the mosaic, instead of being two full tiles in between the mosaics. I've attached two photos, one of the results using the tile patterns, and what I want to achieve using patterns, but have drawn in using CAD lines as a placeholder. Of course, drawing lines directly on elevations is not a long term solution, so does anyone have any ideas? Am I missing a settings page somewhere?

Thanks very much

Since you have X9, Wall Material Regions would be the best way as Michael mentioned , you can copy and paste the strips etc in Elevation so once you have the First one it is pretty quick.

Also, it's good to have your Forum Signature filled in please, especially with the Software Version,
and of course a Name is nice too :) ..............see mine below in Blue for how to do that.

IF you don't have any openings to deal with (windows, niches, doors), using a molding polyline can work:

The advantages: 1) each tile section is a separate molding, and the tile pattern will behave; 2) it's easy to control the height and placement of each molding; 3) molding polylines can sometimes be easier to work with than material regions; 4) it's easy to wrap around corners and to copy/paste between rooms.

The disadvantages: 2) it's more difficult to make work with openings.

Hi, thanks for your quick responses! I'm new to the forum so I forgot to mention that I'm running Interiors, not Premier, so I don't think I have the wall material regions tool available to me.

The Matrix says you Do...... Under Walls.....

I was going by the Compare Matrix , as I have Premier, it says you have Wall Regions.... and they are under the Walls Icon at the bottom of the Drop Down Menu, they are also under Build >Wall> item No#15 for me in the Dropdown...above Break Wall

Are you sure you have X9?  they were new in X9 IIRC.

you should email customer service and ask too perhaps....seems like a Tool Interiors should have consider Kitchen and Bathrooms are the most likely spot to use them.

but as Eric said a Custom Backsplash should work too , they work similarly :

Or you could also use Wall Coverings.

According to the OP's first post, Wall Coverings is what she is trying. If you use a Wall Covering for each individual element (including the mosaic strips), you have to create a separate material for each element to control the pattern/texture origin (making sure to account for the thickness of the finish floor) - and that's a lot of work. But, if it's important enough, it can be done, and works well with openings:

Bottom line is that Linda needs to use multiple material definitions.  I mentioned Material Regions in my first response, and then a few more alternatives were added to the list but the rest of you guys, but the most important aspect wasn't the object being used but the fact that she needs to use multiple objects and multiple materials. For all intents and purposes the only real difference between the Wall Coverings and Material Regions in this case is the extra depth in 3D (if the user even sets that properly).

You're right, you don't have the wall material region, but you DO have the Floor Material Region which will work exactly like a wall material region if you click or drag in 3D or elevation.

Good for All Interior Users to know cos I think I saw two posts this week alone (like this one) complaining they couldn't find the Wall Regions Tool , wonder why it's not on the Wall Toolbar like for Premier Users if it is the same tool with a different Icon?..... that's a sure way to P.O. Interiors Users ... :)

Hopefully they will find this Post ...if they Search ...

CA X9 INTERIORS    WALL MATERIALS REGION TOOL    =    use the Floor Regions Tool  please
