NOTE:

Nvidia have  discontinued support for all Kepler based cards with this Driver , ie most 600 and 700 Series Cards.

NVIDIA officially discontinues Game Ready driver support for Kepler GPUs - VideoCardz.com

There is also reports that they have apparently discontinued STANDARD Drivers as well according to some reports aligning with Windows 11and that all Drivers must be DCH based.

Anyone aware of Chief's preferred driver version from Nvidia?  Gameready Drivers or Studio Drivers?

It does not matter to chief which you use, I use both depending on whether a particular Driver is stable or not.

Chief is not directly supported by Nvidia in either driver, but many Other Apps are directly supported by the Studio Drivers , so it maybe worth using them if you also run other 3D software , like Maya, Blender, Vray etc.

We recommend using the Nvidia Studio drivers, they are more stable, go through more extensive testing, and are on a scheduled release cycle, plus we get the pre-release builds so we are able to test and provide any feedback to Nvidia, if needed.  We don't evaluate the game ready drivers, they are released randomly and too frequently for us to track.

thanks the studio drivers are a bit of a risk for me as gigabyte says to download drivers from their site (as does NVDIA says to download from manufacturers site), and Gigabyte does not have the studio drivers on their site

But I downloaded them anyway two weeks ago. I get crashes but I'm not sure it is CA as I get them on Netflix on edge as well. I just move to chrome yesterday so I'll see if it makes a difference.

I never had a problem with my old laptop with the 1xxx NVDIA card, so i think it might be the 30xx card

As noted above Chief now recommends the Studio Driver for Chief as it is "supposedly" more stable and tested more by Nvidia. But I switch between Studio (SD) and Game Ready ( GR) as needed etc if Issues arise.

I have never heard the "Advice" you mention and have always download the latest Drivers Manually from Nvidia, as most Manufacturer's don't update their website often ...or at all... but you can let the Driver install Geforce Experience as well ( I don't ) and it will do Updates for you as well, I just prefer to be proactive in this type of thing.

No crashes yet on this Latest Studio Driver......... Version:472.84

Laptop?      1 thing to check would be that  Netflix is using the Nvidia card and not the iGPU

*I do however used Intel's Driver and Support Assistant App (DSA) on both my Laptop and Desktop to keep all the Intel Drivers Current.

after you search for your diver at NVDIA below the results is:

Although GeForce Game Ready Drivers and NVIDIA Studio Drivers can be installed on supported notebook GPUs, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provides certified drivers for your specific notebook on their website. NVIDIA recommends that you check with your notebook OEM for recommended software updates for your notebook.

Laptops ( your Sig. doesn't mention that ) can be a bit different due to the iGPU and the need for compatibility between the Intel and Nvidia Driver , but the above warning is based on both parties passing the buck when it comes to uneducated Users and having to provide Customer Support.

I have no issues on my Asus Laptop (2070s) in my SIG with this Driver but I do run DSA to make sure the iGPU and Wifi/BT are all current , but I encourage you to do what you feel comfortable with , I have been supporting and build computers since the 90's and am hence comfortable doing my own Support

Let Geforce Experience do it for you if you are not comfortable running the Installer yourself...

tried that. it errored out, could not install the driver.

yes laptop

Might be time to try DDU on both the Nvidia GPU and the Intel GPU and let Windows Update provide Drivers and then update from there as it seems you have more than 1 issue.

I tried downloading and installing the latest driver.  It wouldn't install because I'm still on Windows 10.  I've been wary of upgrading to Windows 11 - I would need to install a upgrade file and I don't want to take any chances.

Any advice would be appreciated, including how to get the required file.

Thanks

I am not sure what File you are referring to Joe? a Windows 10 Update?  I am on the latest Win10 myself (AFAIK) and had no issues installing thee new Studio Driver V.472.84

NVDIA search seems a little broken. If I select Win 10, no results per below, change to Win 11 I get the result above, and it notes the driver is good for Win 10 64bit. QA guy must be on vacation

Used the Advanced Driver Search in the 1st Post if the General one is playing up, I tend to just use the Advanced one normally as it will show all driver types except hotfix.
