Roof Truss Question

I always just manually trim those off in the truss detail.  I think its a bug and should be reported.  Honesty I run into so many little things like that in Chief on a daily basis but so often its right when I'm in the middle of trying to be productive and so I don't report it.  Then I subsequently forget about it...  I think I'm going to start keeping a list.  This will be my first thing that I put on it.  I would encourage you to report it as well.

Could also be a problem with your truss profile having extra nodes at the heel, but most likely it is the actual depth of the heel.  I come across this problem all the time.  It could be a bug as Michael suggests.  Notice at the close up - the soffits are misaligned (eve to ceiling).

I also have had problems with square cut eves.

Good Point.  Chief usually likes to terminate the truss tail with a single node.  I think what the poster has going on is some weird geometry where the top chord is generated through based on the nodes.

No.  It happens all the time with perfectly normal truss polyline shapes.  Its actually very easy to reproduce the problem too.  Just build a truss, and slowly resize the heel shape.

Chief just doesn't seem capable of automatically trimming those sharp points till they're a certain height.  Again, it can be done manually, Chief just doesn't handle them so well automatically.

Agreed with all of the above.

While CA does a passable job on most of the truss design I need the small details at the fascia line can be frustrating.

One in particular are truss tails that show an unusual drop at the very end unless pulled away from the fascia which leaves a unwanted gap in plan view

Checking with tech support I got this: I did raise the roof plane 1" & rebuild trusses fixed these trusses.

Hi Charles,
I have spent some time looking at your plan and I haven't been able to come up with the exact cause of your issue. I have submitted this plan to our development department to see if they can figure out the exact reason this is being caused.

That being said, I found that changing the height of the roof plane. Once you've changed the height of the roof plane, you'll need to then force the trusses to rebuild. You can do this by opening the trusses and checking the Force Truss Rebuild checkbox.

Thanks!
