X9 Slowing towards Freezing

I have tried, unsuccessfully, to get X9 to operate on my system. It did work for a few days and then developed a problem. It is only X9 that has been an issue. In essence, it works for a few minutes and then develops long time delays when switching screens. They start short and progress to 10 minutes or more. I have run the course through Chief Support. I have upgraded drivers and reloaded the software,  all the way to my Window operating system. Reinstalled everything and the issue persists. In essence, X9 will not operate on my desktop hardware.  It gets stuck in some processing operation but at the same time, and I mean at the same moment in time, other software, including X8, and equipment operates properly. File size is not relevant.  Does anyone else have a similar issue?

Equipment - Dell T 3500.  Nvidia Quadro K4000. Lots of available memory. Windows 7. Windows Essentials protection.

Thanks

Try turning off everything running in the background and see if that helps. Is that a new or old Quadro card?  Chief prefers NVidia cards

That Quadro card actually IS an Nvidea card.  Quadro is just an Nvidea workstation card series (as opposed to a gaming card).

No, no ever not on any of several PC's I have had or any version back to when I first started with 3D Architect.

Please contact Tech Support they will be interested to help you.

He has David and they couldn't help him....

wasn't there others with issues , with slow downs on Xeon based systems?  Larry maybe?

Perhaps try a different Nvidia Card if you have one available?

but maybe time for a new Computer and Windows 10....

I had an issue the other day, not quite as bad as what you describe but worth a look anyway. I was suddenly getting extreme lag shortly after opening if more than one tab open (SOP). Was getting to the point of unusable and seamed to only be in Chief. It looked to me to be a mouse issue, checked drivers and such, ran scans. Finally searched on mouse issues-turns out I had moved the USB port my wireless mouse worked in. I saw reference to that wireless mouse connections being too close to wifi, router and the like. I moved the USB back to the original position and the problem went away. Note that it could also have to do with my moving the USB I used for a DisplayLink monitor and the system may be confused but again it was just about only, or at least far worse, in Chief. May be useless but all I've ever run into.

<MarkMc seems to have the only approach I have not tried. Thanks. I will. I was using multiple active views to make it act up but that has never been an issue with the other versions. There was a few times the processor was working so hard that the fan was speeding up to keep it from heating up.

The NVidia card is only 2 years old. It has been fine. The first one lasted 4 or 5 years.

Yes. Chief Support tried for a week or so. I also had on line time with Nvidia and Microsoft. They tried.

This is the only real technical issue I have had with the product. 10 years. Other issues can be tallied up as part of the learning curve.  :o) Still learning.

Will try the rewiring and get back to you in a day or two or three.

Thank you for the interest.

Has same issues  Updated video card to gtx1060 (all I could go with changing the power supply)

This helped some

This weekend I put a ssd drive in which really helped

The only thing I have not figured out is I can have 7 open screens with floor plan elevations overview and sections etc ( trying overload it)

Using the tabs works great but I try the window button to change screens it will slow down and usually change to screen I have not clicked on

Maybe the problem is my mouse (Logitech wireless) but I would think it would do the same in the tabs??

Update Your Signature , with your Computer specs , I am thinking that with too many Tabs open you may not have enough Physical Memory eg 16GB plus , I and many other like Perry are using 32GB as you can see in Our Sigs.

the other possibility is you got a 2GB 1060 instead of a 4GB ..swap it out if they'll let you, it may help especially with multiple 3D tabs open...

to fill in your Sig. go up to the top RH Corner click on your User name> Account Settings> on left is Signature....

The fact that things work fine using tabs but lag when using the window button is a fairly clear indicator that the issue is not related to your primary hardware such as ram or video card. This is most likely a software, driver or background process conflict. Suggest you track back to when this started to occur and any system changes that took place around that time. This includes Windows updates and CA updates. Keep in mind that when Windows performs an update that it can contain driver updates that are automatically installed.

This started as soon as I brought a plan into chief 9

The upgrades I made have made a large difference

Usually I do not have that many tabs open I was just seeing how far I could go

Still do not understand the tabs versus window issue I am in the habit of using the window instead of thetabs

but learning to use the tabs (old dog new tricks)

Thought maybe this might help others having the same issue

Thanks for all you replies and help

It seems like this could be a Registry problem.

It's been awhile since I've used a Windows machine on a serious level.  I switched to Apple about 12 years ago.

Do they still have utilizes to search and correct Registry conflicts?

Hello again.

I too discovered that when switching between "Tabs" the software seemed to work just fine.  That is not the procedure I typically use.  I do the Windows drop down and select.

I did switch the port for the mouse. The same results.

The problem did start about 1 week after starting to use X9. There could have been a windows update. If there was, it only affected X9.

When the delays kicked in, while monitoring the hardware performance screen, the cpu was consuming far more memory than it did when operating normally. Maybe the software was  ignoring the existence of the video driver as it was not showing much, if any, utilization.

I will be working in X8 so that I can keep my files accessible. Will open and save some in X9 to see how the software performs.

My guess is there is a quirk somewhere in the programming. Not something I have capability of accurately identifying  or fixing.

All in all, at least now I know my experience was not an isolated event. Until I posted, it was.

OK Chief. It is in your hands.

Thank you.

We have been able to reproduce the issue when using the Windows menu to change between tabs and we are looking into it.

For now I would suggest clicking the tabs to activate them.

Thanks

Excellent

  • 1 month later...

I have been experiencing the same issue when switching between open windows in x9  If I use the tabs the screens switch as they should, if I use the drop down Windows menu, the lags start at a few seconds lag time to a minute or more to switch to an active window. Its not file size related, I have been using Chief since the 90's and have never had such a glitch. I have a modern ROG Asus with updated drivers etc. Its been tough to use 9 for anything as I instinctively go to the drop down Windows menu when switching between active views. This post was from back in July, has there been any progress on the resolution of this issue?
