Wanting to remove original knee braces / gable brackets and fascia from 1910 craftsman house in order to remove layers of lead paint. No evidence brackets ever detached - original cedar lumber. Cannot see any lag bolts. Any advice on removal technique and how to limit damage to surrounding shingles?

When I was building I did a lot of just this kind of thing in Old Towne Orange here.

It has been my experience that the brackets are nailed in with rather long nails into the studs.

Andy.

My guess was 20 penny nails but before trying to pry the braces off I wanted to know what to expect.

Some of them are at attic level so will be a mean feat to get the purchase required.

Been kept in place for a over 100 years so must be really affixed.
