  4. pCon.planner – FREE
3D Interior Design Software to aid Chief Architect users

Chief users doing commercial projects can benefit from the resources found in

pCon Planner - a free software program that links well to commercial catalogs, materials, and templates.

pCon Planner's main focus is for interior layouts of commercial offices, Educational and Medical.

It links to participating manufacturer Catalogs, Materials, and standard templates that can aid your

setup of your own Chief Architect commercial templates.

Its main strength is the "links" to product catalogs, designer examples, and templates.

Unfortunately, its main focus is European but there are North American products as well.

pCon allows several export options including skp files that can be easily imported into

Chief Architect or SketchUp depending on your workflow.

The attached files show the type of files that can be IMPORTED and EXPORTED from pCon.

I use pCon as a type of 3D Warehouse which focuses on commercial products.

My workflow is to load commercial products into pCon and then export to Chief Architect as skp files.

An example is a roller door.  Chief Architect has yet to add roller doors to their door list

(roller doors have been repeatedly requested over the years,

Please add your request for Roller Doors to the Suggestions Forum)

  6.

    Check out ChiefTalk thread

It may be easier to create in SketchUp and then load into Chief as a symbol as suggested above.

    Note:

The "free SketchUpMake" allows installation of "plugins as the Medeek Truss Plugin" noted in the ChiefTalk posting above.

  8. Thanks Dave for the link.

I did not realise it was not a "free symbol".

It requires one to have a "Prime Membership" to access the download.

Perhaps next time indicate if the symbol is a "free symbol"

or one for "Prime Membership" holders.

Looks like good value for money!

    Regards,

    Ray

  9. IFC applications

Interesting post by "kirill2008" in regards evolving application of IFC files

(IFC - Industry Foundation Classes. The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data model is intended to describe building and construction industry data.
It is a platform neutral, open file format specification that is not controlled by a single vendor or group of vendors.

    ArchiCAD's use of "Hotlink IFC

Food for thought for Chief Architect programmers :)

    "post by "kirill2008"
there is still much work to be done to claim that between
different BIM software is something real (not just a good intention).
    observationsAccording to my
"interoperability" For now However progress in this direction never stops,
with objects transferred using IFC format between BIM software of each other.
it seems like even big players in the field haven't yet figured out how to provide a way to interact (fully and safely)
for example I've seen recently a new interesting innovation,
    which allows the insert
of a reference to an IFC file into a project, so it is possible to collaborate with engineers, detect clashes etc:

Fantastic roof design, and well done!

I shared your ChiefTalk posting with Nathaniel from Medeek Eng. in WA USA. who is also a "truss groupie".

He would like to touch base with you!

Nathaniel is in WA USA and shares your "passion of trusses".

  11. Sketchup Plants, Trees, and Shrubs Archive

    http://www.onecommunityglobal.org/sketchup-plants

This page is a list of existing Sketchup trees and what trees they could be substituted for in 3D renderings. This page was created by a botanist with decades of experience who reviewed over 500 Sketchup plant models (every one we could find) and chose the best of the best from what was available. He then used his knowledge and experience to list other plants that the existing models could be substituted for. Use your browsers search function to find plants and comparable substitutions and watch the video for specific instructions on how to place these plants into models.
