This is new to me but I am a builder in South Florida and draw some of our projects. We arew getting busy 

not sure how this would work But I draw designs for clients maybe we could work together to finish or you would finish.

Appreciate all the advice but I am an idiot Downloaded true view  and what I saw on the screen all all the feet measurements were inches  

So I then bought BlueBeam to see if I could see if it was to scale . Did not realize bluebeam is a big program that I am not in the mood to learn I would like to pay someone to convert the plan for me if anyone is interested

I created a plot plan turned off all the layers so just showed the outside wall I converted the plot plan to a cad detail then I converted to dwg from cad file

The architect asked about measurement from the dwg file not matching the pdf without autocad not sure 

how to correct the problem

Looking for someone to convert plan to DWG I am overwhelmed with work and I gave local architect a plan to finish and He said my dwg was not working

I am getting an error message when I open Chief. Fault tolerant Heap FTH. Everytime I try to generate a 3d perspective of whole house  program freezes take about 4 minutes to generate.

Any suggestions

I was looking at a program called Structure Studios for designing pools I called to see if I could export a Chief 3d model into the program so I could start the pool design was told I could in a sketchup file SKP or a FBX Is anyone familiar with exporting models into program like that. The program seems to make designing the back yard easier than with chief But I have seen great plans guys do with Chief. Just curious if it would be easy to do.

WHEN I DO THOSE POSTS IN SOUTH FLORIDA I USE A RED IRON ENGINEERED DESIGNED 4X4  OR 6X6 ECT TO  ANCHORED TO CONC  PAD FOOTING AND BOLTED TO BEAM EITHER EMBEDDED IN TO A CON. TIE BEAM OR MAYBE BOLTED TO TRUSS GIRDER.  WOOD I SUPPOSE THERE ARE ALOT OF COLUMN COVERS TO CHOOSE FROM wE USE A LOT OF PRECAST CONCRETE COLUMNS (OR USED TO)  WITH A SEAM VERTICAL 

you know it is funny reading this thread I was doing everything in cad This thread had helped me more than anything with the program. I did not even know you could turn off and on wall layers I would go to cad detail windows and have to zoom in just to make sure every measurement was on the main layer OMG  Still learning

Are there good videos I can watch to learn how to send the 3 d views to layout is they print accurately? I send to clients all the time by sending to layout -pdf  and then email.  When I print it becomes distorted mess. When I send to layout Current screen as image then crop to fit. I called tech support they suggested send it as current screen which was not good either. I see great prints by other users.  I watched some video but it showed how to create 3 d views but not how to print. Thanks In advance Adam

That is what I do 50% I draw some I bid. I have never been good at delegating and drawing at night  and trying to get paid yada yada yada I waas just thinking that drawing ( I know is stressful) But it is just me, not every sub, inspector, customer, and decorator.  I appreciate the comments and advice and I will  get over it and get back to work

This is probably not the right forum. I have been a builder my whole life.  I do not know how to quit. I am as busy as I can be but the customers have gotten crazy

I work in a Horse community the richest in the country and building multi million dollar barns and houses.  I am partners and we make money. But the stress is killing me. If I have to deal with another decorator I will shoot myself. I am way stressed out and customer rep / decorator just left my office. I have commitments and a partner.  Big decision. I am 64 years old probably need to work till I am 70 for max SS (with no regrets). My question can you make money drawing plans only and I know a lot of the guys on the forum are builders and former builders. With all the stress of building I am having a lot trouble quitting I know the only thing I enjoy  drawing of the plans But I still get a kick out of scheduling building all the things that go into building BUT THE STRESS  is killing me. If you were a builder were you happy and satisfied quitting and designing only

Thanks for the heads up, I will give it a try old and bad habits hard to break and ift is competitive competing with others where the going rate is a $1.00 per foot plus add the engineer at $.45.00 per ft so it i about getting done as fast as possible.  

I am curious down here in Florida we have to do a truss layout for every job addition ect. The engineer of record has to seal basically it is all about the uplift. and knowing where the girders are. then we match the straps up accordingly. I would never consider doing the truss layout in 3d I do it in cad. Showing the way I think the girders and valley sets ect go  all in 2d. 

To build we need the truss drawing from  truss company which has all the cut sheets ect for each truss showing uplift. I always thought this was stupid as we need the engineer of record plan  before the truss drawing . some times I would have russ drawing complete before permit submittal  when the project was sold and I could bill for the truss company plan usually 10% of contract for trusses but then you are committed to the trusses company. We had another company that would charge 15 cents a foot for truss drawing. . 

I am still a builder I think if I drew full time, another income stream would be to learn a truss program that would work with a local truss company company. The truss design would then be accurate

I am having a computer built by someone that I respect. but I told him I need a video card for gaming I have an alienware laptop with nvidia 1080 card now

and He want to use a Radeon pro WX2100 2m-d which to me was only a $ 100 card The radeon series has a 5100 model with 8 gb is that as good as  nvidia  

I am attaching the specs for computer any advice would help

I want to thank everyone for their input will go with Surface Pro just one last thing is it worth the money for the newest I think they call LTE where the sim card  is in the computer or just get a hot spot

I wanted to know if anyone uses a surface pro for chief Looking at Dell xps vs Surface pro it is needed to run Chief in the field as well to get work done as I am sending in my primary computer to to be fixed. My Alienware  is actually melting or swelling up and cracking So I need to keep working while it is being repaired. (Under warranty) so i do not want to buy another super lap top but something I can have in the field as my Alieware is 13 lbs   and holds a charge for about 1 hour if lucky. Also like the idea of pictures as we use buildertrend and we photograph job progress
