I keep reading about people having problems with fan whine. Do you have any?

Its a toss up between this and the Alienware M18. The M18 with 64GB 4090, 4TB, is $1400 off with a discount. and the Scar 18 32GB, 2TB is $1000 off. So basically they are the same price. Although screen sizes are the same the M18 is 9 lbs vs 7lbs for the Scar. and the M18 is larger footprint

So far so good, from what I read it was with models with under 330w power supply. Seems good for now.

    edited to add this.

I just got back from best buy where they just price matched my computer to their sale price of $1,999.99 today. So my total savings was $500.00 of regular price.

  2. Jason the computer showed up! Added the 64gb ram, Upgraded The 1TB m.2 to 2TB m.2, Added a second 2TB m.2., Upgraded Windows 11 to Pro.

All is working well. Installed all the programs on it. (still fine tuning the programs)

Very pleased with the performance of this computer!!!!!

  3. I purchased this last Friday on sale for $2199.99. It was supposed to be store pick up today, hope it comes in tomorrow. I know it is a little over your budget, how ever you can upgrade ram and storage over time.

ASUS ROG Strix 18" 240Hz Gaming Laptop QHD-Intel 13th Gen Core i9 with 16GB Memory-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080-1TB SSD Eclipse Gray G814JZ-G18.I94080 - Best Buy

I plan to update it to 64GB ram, and add a second m.2 2TB, I will upgrade the org m.2 to 2TB in a few months.

  4. Jason,

A friend of mine tells me that 32gb Ram is most you need unless rendering.

I would buy the one you asked about and update the m.2 to 2 TB (Samsung) Gen4 SSD and use the 1tb as second drive. (After I made sure the 2TB was working properly, before doing anything to the factory 1TB)

You will have to get a USB external case and use the Samsung data migration software to copy the 1tb to the new 2tb (I bought the 2TB for 159.00 each)

I had the external USB case. (using the factory 512 as external USB drive) PSA.......Samsung software only works with Samsung drives!

Good luck and let me know what you end up doing.

out of curiosity, why the above specs vs

    https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834725208 at $2k

where the graphics RAM would be higher:

    • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU Boost Clock 1395 MHz / Maximum Graphics Power 130 W 16 GB GDDR6
    • Intel Core i7 12th Gen 12700H (2.30GHz)
    • 32GB Memory 1 TB Gen4 SSD

That would be a very good laptop to buy!

The difference between is the video card and the storage. for about the same price.

I really just stumbled on this open box.

Thank you, I would recommend this over the one I started with.

  6. I bought A GU603ZM at BestBuy (open box-yes cover a little scratched)

    I7-12700H, 16gb ram, 512 m.2, second m.2 slot available, RTX3060 6gb ddr6, 16" screen.

This is how I modified it.

data migrated, 512 m.2 to Samsung 2TB NVMe M.2. (After setting up windows Home 11)

    Added a second Samsung 2TB NVMe m.2

Replaced the one 8gb Memory card ddr5, with a 32gb ddr5 memory for a total of 40gb Ram. (there is a 8gb ram on the motherboard)

So that is how I ended up with a I7-12700H, 40 gb Ram, 2-2TB m.2 drives and a RTX3060 laptop that seems to be the fastest computer I have at the moment.

Ok, so here is my opinion.  You have a right to your opinions but so do the people that disagree with you and downvoted you.  That does not make them "shallow minded".

I think the company giving the Interiors people a free upgrade to Premier is a good thing.  They bought their program and they paid their SSA just like everyone else did.  I think they even had to pay the same for SSA as everyone else even though they were paying for less features.

I really don't see how the company taking care of them is a "kick in the pants" to any one else.  I actually think that it shows that they still care about their customers.  They could have just said "sorry but if you want to upgrade it will cost you $$$" instead.

Would you be kind enough to tell me what they gave the Premier customer in addition to what they have been paying for? I do not recall getting any upgrade from Priemer to something better. What did I miss as you claim paying the same?

Exactly.  But to be more precise, I put all schedules in CAD Detail Windows so they can be sent to any Layout Page.

Generally I will have 1 or more such pages specifically identified in the Layout Page Table.

Thank you Joe, I have been doing the same thing, and forgot to mention that CAD Detail Window, so they can be sent to any Layout Page

  9. WOW!!!!!!!  WHAT A PUNCH IN THE GUT!!!!!!!

I feel like I just watched the client in front of me get clobbered and I am next in line, when new sales drop next year and our SSA goes up 300% to cover the losses..............................

My Revit LT suite is only $605.00 a year. And the only reason I have it, I took a job with another Designer that required me to learn it. The odds of switching him to a better program just went bye, bye.

Full Revit is only $2,675.00 a year!!!! I get that Chief is way better, however the top of the line (in others eyes) is only $700.00 more after January!

    WOW.......................

  10. Joe this is great! I could not figure it out, so I took it back. Now I will have to go buy another one and get your setup...

Would like to see you demonstrate this in the round table on November 5th if you can make it. I posted in under user groups and General Q / A

Maybe I will get it by then send people your way if you cannot make it.

Very Nice, looking forward to getting this.

  11. Rob,

I attached a plan where I use a thickened slab beam wall on the foundation layer and trace the wall above.

I then make it a foundation wall and move it to a "walls, foundation 2" The graphics work for foundation plan, however in section will it show a rectangle footing and stem.

Saved plan views to look at are

    Working plan view

    Foundation plan view

Chief tech is who suggested moving wall to different layer and turning it off.

    Hope this helps...

I hope they will get on board with fixing thickened slab beams to work with footing and stem walls. (I gave them all my foundation details to help explain!)

    Sample thickedned slab beam.plan

  12. I do not get to 52 revisions. Here is how I do it.

    Plan number 2400.

Layout and plan are named 2400

If I make a revision or option, I save plan 2400 as 2400 - 1, exit and go back to 2400 and make the changes.

If I have to make another revision, I save 2400 as 2400 - (next number), exit and go make changes to 2400.

If you ever have to go back to another version. Save 2400 as 2400 - (next number)

Then go into old version, and save as 2400

This method keeps plan 2400 as current plan and all the revisions as - (version Number in order).

I rarely change the layout specific to a plan version. however if I need to then Save 2400 - (version Number) layout file

This has worked for me well and keeps me from having to guess what plan file is the current version.

Would I be correct in assuming it's a pretty complex macro to get the 2nd digit to display as superscript?

Really it was not. Michael in Alaska (Alaskan_Son), is the one that did the macro and modified the font to work with it.

If you are interested I would check with him and see what he would charge to sell it to you, as well as modify your font, unless he all ready has a font you use.
