  1. Why do ceiling beams not follow the angle/pitch of the ceiling plane in a room? And, where can I manually override the pitch/angle of a ceiling beam? I was able to set the top to the ridge height of the ceiling plane, but the setting for the bottom only affects the depth not the angle of the beam. OR, how else do you accomplish this. I just want to show a faux beam that follows the angle of the ceiling plane which is 6 pitch under a 10 pitch roof.
  2. That is however interesting, I do happen to have 128GB of RAM, but it's unified memory on the M1 Ultra chip. Maybe X15 doesn't like that amount of memory in that configuration? I'll just have to get some time to test it on my M2 with 64GB and see what happens.
  3. Is there a way to add anything to the reference display? I am working on a plot plan and would like the all things topography and slabs to show between the foundation level and main level of the property that I am currently working on. Or some other QUICK and EASY way of doing it?

  5. I do have the latest version. Must be Ventura or something else. I've bumped back down to X14 since I hadn't done that much this morning that I could not redo. I'll have to play later when I can to try and isolate the issue on this or one of my other machines.= and contact support I guess.
  6. So I've been working in X15 today for the first time. I upgraded an X14 plan, and X15 has inadvertently shut down on me 5 times in the last 3 hours. Is X15 unstable? Anyone else experiencing instability on Mac Ventura 13.6? Or am I the lucky one.
  7. Apparently I do not understand how to set default material settings. In this video, I'm experiencing some difficulties while working in X15. I'm trying to change the default exterior wall materials, but whenever I select the walls and choose the default material, it keeps reverting back to a blue siding instead of the one I have set. I'll show you the steps I've taken and the issue I'm facing.   8. Installed X15 for the first time today. I am unable to update but a few catalogs at a time. I even tried deleting and reinstalling catalogs but they still show that they require an update in the interface after removing and re-installing. However, X15 will not process more than 4 updates at a time before failing. My X14 updates in mass just fine. Is this a bug?   9. I have a 16" and my wife the 14". Since it's hooked up to externals most of the time. I wish I had the 14" now. It's so convenient for things not related to design to have the smaller lighter form factor. None-the-less I love the M2 Max as from my previous post it out performs my M1 Ultra from last year. When the 3nm chips and/or vertical transistor stacks are a reality in production, well.... we'll probably be able to just design in physically based render mode... connected to that new Vision Pro... like being on a holodeck. LOL. But until then, while I mainly use my Studio M1 Ultra, the M2 Max is very nice. when I want portability or need to crank out something that it can do faster.
  10. I purchased a Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 20-core CPU, 64-core GPU, & 128GB RAM last summer. I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro M2 Max with 12‑core CPU, 38‑core GPU, and 64GB RAM. When using Physically Based rendering, The MacBook GPU cores get very hot, to where when running CA on it, I have chosen to manually force the fans to come on and stay on at 2500rpm (still very quiet). The Studio however never breaks a sweat. Interesting though, the MacBook Pro outperforms the Studio in every test I can throw at it in CA. I have a 55 page ARCH D layout that when printing to PDF on the MacBook Pro M2 Max takes 6.5 ,minutes but 9.125 minutes on the Studio M1 Ultra. Moving through Physically Based rendering 3D views is a little smoother on the M2 Max. Likewise When changing room lighting settings, the system re-renders possibly 20% faster. I have to say... I don't know if I'm more impressed with the MacBook or disappointed in the Studio . The MacBook Pro is portable, comes with an awesome screen and while lacks the added ports and 10GB ethernet available in the Studio, I'm seriously having a hard time with this discovery. LOL.
  11. Thanks and so, in my digital locker, I have the option to update to X15 with the same License code as my X14. I guess because my SSA auto renewed in January??? So is this X15 version going to remain usable if my SSA cancels in the future? Or should I just stop where I am now at X14 and not upgrade any of my past plan designs to X15?
  12. So I have used CA essentially as a hobbyist since X2. I also used it for about 5 years to create simple plans views and 3D renderings for my Metal building business, from which I am now retired. Currently, I am using it to design a remodel of our home as well as I sometimes crank out simple plans for friends and family. That said, after all these years, I am still a very simple user and hardly touch the software's capabilities, but I have paid for SSA because it was reasonably priced. I also realize that the world is rapidly changing, and everything is moving to a recurring revenue model. And yet even those models are under threat of AI domination. It's hard to navigate the rapidity of change. Just today, I watched a guy on YouTube code a simple but working landing page with a working input field that was programmatically published on his GitHub account simply by talking to Siri, which he connected to ChatGPT through an application he wrote and called Jarvis. When some of the world's mega-corps build APIs and connect their design softwares to AI... well, will design capability one day be available to everyone simply by talking to a machine? Or will it only be in the control of a few? Who knows. The economic disruption of this is... well, who even is smart enough to contemplate what that future will actually look like other than the many movies we have all seen. Do we even need money? LOL. I was very dissatisfied when I moved from X12 to X13 because X13 it ruined my ability to generate decent 3D renderings. This was fixed in X14. BUT FOR TODAY AND NOW... While the initial cost plus $600 yearly seemed reasonable to me, and while I can afford it, I cannot justify $199/mo for this hobby. But I'd like to be able to keep my CA and use it. So I just want to know, can I use my X14 until it stops working due to limitations in operating system evolution? And essentially, I am confused as to whether I should move to X15. And/or is CA offering lifetime past users the ability to continue with SSA pricing? Can someone summarize for me in simple bullet points or point me to another page or thread that does so? Thanks.
  13. Surely there is a way to include several rooms in a single electrical schedule? But I cannot find it... i.e. I have a master bath, toilet closet, and shower that are separate rooms so that the room moldings work for each. Then I have two master closets and a hall attached to the master bedroom... I want ALL these rooms to be considered the MASTER SUITE, and I want a single electrical schedule to reference the MASTER SUITE instead of 8 schedules.

  15. I'm tired of having to drag camera views over to another monitor with my mouse. Is there a way to set Chief so that all Camera views open on a different monitor or in a different window? Or is there a way to use a keyboard shortcut to pop-out a camera view tab into a different window? This way I would be able to use my keyboard shortcuts to bump that window to full screen on another monitor all without having to use touch my mouse?

  18. @rgardnerPerhaps you ordered when the supply chain was less stressed? Things are strange these days. They told me when I ordered a month ago that it would not ship for 3 months. Here's hoping it will ship sooner like yours did, but that's what I was told.
  19. I finally had some time to get back to this issue. I just downloaded the X14 Beta. All my rendering issues between X12 and X13 have been resolved! Opening my X12 plan in X14 (as is AND with no material changeouts or modifications) looks fantastic! Unlike when opening it in X13, my plan appears just as clean and crisp in X14 as it did in X12; it actually looks better because the material rendering is far better in X14 than in X12. Crisp clean lines and resolution CLARITY is back! CA somehow managed to take the best of X12 and X13 rendering and combine those features into X14. It's darn near perfect. I am so excited I cannot wait to get my new Mac Studio now. I only wish that with the current supply chain bottlenecks, that I didn't have to wait until the end of July for it to ship. Thank You CA for listening and acting. I can tell that I am so going to enjoy working in X14!

As seen from earlier in this post, I have remained on X12 because of struggling with trying to learn how to optimize render quality in X13 with the changes CA has made from the rendering engine of X12. I have just ordered a new Mac Studio and would like to upgrade to X14 when possible, but first would like to understand it in X13. @Renerabbitt in our previous conversation thread from today with @rgardner, you suggested I drop an example plan for rendering in a new thread for you and any other willing and knowledgeable participants to play to possibly show me as to how and what settings I need to adjust in X13 in order to achieve the crispness and clarity for which I am wanting. Since it appears I am unable to post a 148mb file here so, here is a link to a file on my MS OneDrive containing a zip file of the CA Breckinridge Demo Plan where I have edited it and added a kitchen camera called Basil's Learning Camera. I've then saved it out in both X12 and X13 each from which I have included a rendered .png using identical physically based render settings and the same light set. As I have stated, I prefer the sharpness and reflectivity of the granite and tile of the X12 render over that of X13. However I do prefer how X13 handles some but not all of the metals better. In other posts in which I have been involved, it has been explained to me that I simply need to learn how to adjust my settings in X13, and I can get vivid vibrant photo realistic look, possibly even better then X12. @Renerabbitt you also suggested that you offer training. I am certainly open to take advantage of that, if I am able to see an X13 render from this X13 plan file with the look I am able to obtain from X12. I guess I simply need the appropriate guidance and training on this. Many Kind Thanks in advance.
