Fortunately, that storm is out'ta here. It was wicked w/ hail and heavy winds. We woke to 29 degrees this morning which is very odd for N Alamaba in April.  We had a collision of humid warm air and cold air. Tornado season has started early!

Cheryl, Stay safe down there. Here in Indiana we haven't had much of a spring yet. Should be here in the next week or so. Hope all is well.

Hi all!  I haven't shared anything here for awhile, so thought I'd post a couple of recent modeling/rendering projects -- two kitchens and a storage building.

All were modeled in Chief (X9 and X10), including some of the furniture and lighting fixtures.  Rendering was done in Thea, with slight post adjustments in Photoshop. The storage building was photoshopped into the client's site photo, since the Nantucket planning board was concerned about how the building would affect the local streetscape.

Stunning as always. What is the name of the grey paint color in the 3rd pic? I love it!

  3. I honestly can't think of a reason I would want to use one of these fandangled contraptions. LOL Back when they first released the HP TouchSmart desktop all in one computers, I hoped on board and bought one. Big price, Low Low quality. I love technology, but I just can't see a feasible reason I would need Ideum table. The price of these things are insane...

Are all of your cores enabled in Ryzen Master?

Yes. All of my cores are enabled in Ryzen Master. I dropped my cores used in Chief to 28 like yours and that solved me maxing out issue. I think I'm in the homeward stretch here. I'm not experiencing anymore crashes (knock on wood) and the changing the cores used in chief solved my CPU issue. I have some work to do tonight and I will let you know how the system holds up. Fingers crossed! Thank you for all your help.

  5. There has got to be something I'm missing. I installed the new RAM and the CPU still maxes out at 99-100% making it impossible to do any other tasks on the machine. I feel like this machine should be able to handle multiple tasks while rendering. It has to be some kind of setting I'm missing. Any Ideas? Below is an updated list of my computer's parts.

    Parts List:

*MasterCase Pro 5 Mid-Tower Case with FreeForm Modular System, Window Side Panel, Top Mesh Cover, and Watercooling Bracket by Cooler Master
    *WD Black 1TB Performance Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD1003FZEX

  6. I bought the G.SKILL Flare X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14Q-32GFX to replace the RAM that wasn't compatible with my mobo. I should have payed a little closer attention to detail when purchasing my parts. Thank you to all who helped me out on here. Especially you, Jon. My RAM should be here Friday and we're going to install it and test it out.

  7. So we're thinking it's a RAM compatibility issue. Mick was right. The ram I bought is not on the QVL list. We are going to apply new thermal paste just to be safe. The computer doesn't crash anymore during rendering, Chief is the only thing that crashes now and so far just during rendering. It gets a few passes in and shuts down. I have picked out two different sets of compatible RAM (according the the QVL List). Below are the links. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to thank you guys for taking time out of your day to help me. You guys offer an invaluable service to this forum.

  8. I got it up to 3200 mhz. I disabled the XMP and used Ryzen Master to up the speed. Everything else seems to be running fine now so far. Everything except Chief. It gets through just a few passes rendering and then Chief crashes.

  9. It did render before I tried to up the clock speed of the ram. Now it renders for a few passes and then Chief crashes. I have the rendering set to only use 26 of the 32 cores. When ever the computer gets to 100% load it keeps crashing. Maybe it is something with the mobo. I will have to look into that.

  10. I just built a new computer with what I thought was top of the line parts, however my CPU maxes out whenever I raytrace and now it causes my computer to crash. I can't figure out what the heck the problem is. Below is a list of the parts I purchased. Any advise is appreciated.

Shouldn't my computer be up to par to run chief without breaking a sweat? What could be causing the problem here?

UPDATE: The ram won't clock higher than 2133mhz. They can go up to 3600mhz but when I push them higher than 2133mhz the system becomes unstable.

  11. Thanks to all who responded so far. Javatom, you were right. I'm fussing around with these walls trying not to encroach into the study too much but it's not working in my favor. Lol. Eric. That cad line idea is extremely helpful. Thank you. Thank you for also attaching the plan you created yours in. It really helped. As soon as I figure out these walls, I'll post something a little later. You guys are awesome!

  12. A builder I'm working with sent me a pic of the stairs in his personal home and asked me to put the same set of stairs into his new spec. I've been working with Chief for many many MANY years and the stairs tool has always kicked my a**. They never do what I want them to do. I usually just draw them in with cad lines. He wants these modeled in Chief in 3D. I'm assuming this set of stairs can be modeled in Chief using a combination of curved stairs and winders?? Anyone know of an easy way to model these stairs? Would anyone be willing to do an educational video on this so other people down the road will have something to look back on if they find themselves in a similar situation?

    Dogear Arch

Let me touch on that a little more. Double Click on the garage door. In the "Exterior Door Specification" box, click the "Arch" tab. Then select "Dogear Arch" like Eric said, and type in a value... something like 12". Then Click "okay". That should do it!

  14. I have to run to a meeting real quick and when I get back I'll take a look at it. If someone doesn't help you by then, I can give it a try. I take it you're using automatic roofs? Have you tried manually editing the roof planes? I give that a go!
